I actually have done a little modelling  :o

I have applied some decals to the mystery aircraft that I showed the wingtip of. Going to have some fun putting the serial number on it as the dimentions of the decals I am using are not really designed for the shape of aircraft I am applying them to, I will also have to shuffle the serial number around a bit as well. This I am not looking forward to as not only is the serial going to have to go over the rudder joint to the fin but it is in Arabic as well as Latin and each number can have a different width in each case  :-\

THe 1:1 remodelling of the bathroom is progressing, abet slowly. I managed to cut one of the new wall tiles in half where I wanted it to break, the second was close but not right so I did a quick internet search and found a reasonably inexpensive tile cutter so I went out and bought it. The tiles I am cutting into half are ones that got damaged in the box and have corners broken off. By using these tiles to be the part tiles I am makeing the best use of what I have and I reduce the amount of waste I generate, though with the about of tiles I have removed that I have also put up since I started the whole process I will not be reduceing the waste by much

I prefer to work smart rather than to work hard. To that end, late yesterday afternoon I got myself a tile cutter, today I used it after makeing modifications.

The above picture shows the short length that can be measured on the cutter and I need to cut at 10cm so I made a guide

which I taped in place so

which has allowed me to start proper tiling

So in effect the plan is starting to come together

Got further with the tiles today.

Obviously there is still a lot to do but I don't want to do too much for fear of it all falling off the wall. Will have a go at doing two rows at a time and just working on the one wall for the moment, kind of helps with my sanity. I do have a problem with the fitting of the tiles. The room may have been built in Imperial measurements and the tiles to Metric as I am going to have to fudge the corner away from the sink by adding a vertical line of edge tiles which I have previously cut from the boarder as this will save me loads of cutting little slivers of tiles to fit. I may yet have to do something simmilar to the end of the wall next to the sink as I have no idea yet how much space I will have there to play with as I have some mirrors to fit to the wall and then tile up and over them and that may include a strip of wood to hide the edges of the cut tiles, but we will see  :-\

I think our house was.  None of the square footage in spare rooms (where the office and stores room are) line up to standard SAE size tongue and groove flooring.

Some people lay tile by laying all the full size tile first, keeping them lined up then go back and cut the odd size and shape pieces. The tile cutter is great but you might have to take a few to the home improvement store and see if they will cut them with a saw. Quite a mess if you do that at home.

Think yourself lucky you don't line in my house, my bedroom has six walls, none of which are the same length as any others, and none are at right angles to any of their neighbours either..........  :-\

In my previous flat which I moved into in 1992, I had decided to put hard wearing carpet in both the kitchen and bathroom. The carpet was paturned to look like a tiled floor with small tiles at an angle of 450 to it's four neighbours. This was fin in the kitchen, the bathroom however revealed that no wall in that room was at right angles to any other, nor were any walls parallel to it's opposing wall. This was found because the carpet was laid with the paturn at right angles to the door, standard practice the fellow that came to look at the result. However the patern highlighten the fact that the end of the bath nearest the door was nearer to the right door frame while the distant end of the bath, a further six and a bit feet away was decidedly further away from the right door frame, and not by the six foot odd length of the bath. The carpet was replaced as the fitters should have noticed that there was a problem and the new carpet was fitted with the pattern parallel to the side of the bath. This left me with the chance to use the off-cuts of carpet to cover the sides of the bath. It sort of worked  :-\

Once the redecoration of the bathroom is finished the current floor covering will be thrown out. I am thinking of a cushioned linoleum or something like that, with white tile effect and smaller black tiles in the corners with the pattern at 450 to the bath to reduce the chance of a visible problem happening again, well that's the plan.

No, it's just ancient (Built in 1856) stone house that's at the pointed end of a long triangular plot, so the walls aren't parallel to each other anywhere, thus the weird shaped rooms.

Chateau Rheged (the ground floor of the workhouse master's house in a village near Hereford) is 1837 and although allegedly rectangular, I suspect that late Georgian builders were not quite as meticulous as they should have been.  Carpeting and wallpapering when we moved in 8 years ago was "interesting"   The carpet fitters were quite sanguine about the whole thing.  " We're used to old houses! You make with the tea and biscuits and we'll make it perfect"  they said...........................and a superb job they made of it.
