Xtrakit ones are £150 or so on a well known auction site, and a Skybirds one is over £200!

There's the Contrail vacform version going for £55 in the USA, but the postage is another £15.

The tank is relevant in this case as there are three of them in The Loft, along with my stash, and one of them leaking caused the collapse of my bathroom ceiling.

Saturday's purchases have now been added to the stash, with some resultant stash reduction.  I say 'reduction', I mean in the 'for sale' bag - who knows when they'll get passed on, though (and how many may be returned to the stash at some point)!

The sort out has thrown up a whif idea that I don't think has been done before - it involves a reasonably-priced Buccaneer, either a Matchbox/Revell kit or - preferably - the 1990s Airfix kit (or ideally the 2010 Gulf War rebox/update).  Whichever's cheapest.  I know neither are as good as the current 1/72 Airfix Bucc, but both are better than the FROG kit, and in anycase it's for whiffery.

At the moment that's all I'll be looking to buy in 2023, but that obviously depends on what the kit manufacturers plan to release next year!

I could have supplied a 1989 tool Brick had you mentioned it a week back. There's a sealed one that I can quite happily let go. Plus I can also add a new resin nose too.

I didn't know I fancied one for whiffery until the idea popped into my head on Monday, Lee!  PM inbound (and I don't mean Sunak's popping in for a quick jar ot two, either).

A few spare moments of reverie caused me to ponder the last 12 month's modelling, and to look back on this thread to see where my modelling was a year ago and what I planned to get done this year.

Looks like I've completed six models in 2022, all whifs.  I knew one of these (Canberra F.10) had been started many years ago but was very surprised to note the recently completed P.8 was in fact started in October 2021 - I was convinced the build began around February this year.  So that means only four of the six were started and completed this year - woeful! 

So, looking back to my 10 December 2021 post (https://www.whatifmodellers.com/index.php?msg=943316) what did I achieve and how many of my predictions came true?

I still haven't started the Spitfire and Shackleton as intended at the start of 2021, but I did get a part-build finally finished.  Did my best not to increase the stash by too much (I may have failed there) and I do have a bag of stash reduction candidates I need to continue work on.  Once again the same approach in 2023 - offset purchases by stash reductions where possible.

So, build plans for 2023?  More of the same: finish off more part builds, get that Spit and Shack built, try not to be distracted by flash-in-the-pan modelling urges (although I hear the long-in-the-stash Trumpeter Wyvern shouting out to finally get built) and hope the right GBs run in 2023-2024.  Speaking of GBs, I'm really looking forward to the 1950's GB (I've two builds planned).  Within all that I'll be looking to major on those builds/projects that forumites have generously helped me out with by means of spare parts and decals for which I am very grateful - it would be extremely rude of me not to get them done.

Of my predictions for 2022, Airfix failed to announce new 1/72 Lysander, Sea Hawk and Javelin kits (maybe 2023 - with a new 1/72 Anson I and repops of the Cessna O-2 and Short Skyvan thrown in for good measure), Freightdog continued to go from strength to strength and more Gannet F.155T subjects were released.  Sadly, my fear that my LHS would close after 45 years of trading came true following the untimely death of Tony Eastwood.

Once again, then, no modelling resolutions for the new year, just a high-level plan.  Sort of.  Ish.

Here's to 2023, then!

Our local Ukrainian  temporary residents are still enjoying life in rural Herefordshire and well settled in to  school/village ladies craft group etc.  The young ladies have finished their tea train    ( Emmett would be proud of them)  and between Christmas and New Year I had the somewhat surreal experience of listening to a volunteer from the Severn Valley Railway, a retired mechanical engineer and t\he 13 year old Ukrainian youth discussing the finer points of Walschaert's valve gear on a locomotive.  As one of the  old ladies in the village shop said  "I'll be sorry to lose them when they go home!"
