Despite Brother Fred's disbelief, a very nice day today - to be a Scandinavian November day, that is. 14 C and mostly sunny.

Unfortunately, there's also been a working day, so I haven't been able to enjoy the weather to the extent it really deserved, but in the other hand, most of today's work was spent listening to webinars, giving me the opportunity to get some modelling done in parallel. And some modelling was done!

Having finally decided on the colours to use in my version of the German Norm 81 camouflage scheme after som testing on Monday, I painted Tuesday, varnished Wednesday and today, Thursday, I actually managed to put decals on three of the five grey Teitonians on my desk.

I started with the MiG-23, using decals mainly sourced from a Mastercraft MiG-21MF, luckily equipped with post-unification Luftwaffe decals. Added to that, some original Flogger kit stencils and the odd stash^TM find, and it turned out pretty good, if I may say so myself! Tomorrow, maybe, some matt varnish and then maybe even detailing.
Being in a flow, I decalled another MiG, a second -21MF this time, using its own, similar decals, plus some, and then finally a F-104G. Really chuffed with the result.
It'll be great seeing them finished.

Still awaiting decals are a second Fishbed, a bis this time, and the refurbished old F-4F Phantom. And, actually, a few others from the Shelf of Doom^TM, but that'll be once ze Germans are done.

I'm sure I would also have enjoyed the day. 14 and sunny is great.  It's the parts of the year when it's -14 I object to.

Yesterday, I got the decals and some varnish on both the 2^nd MiG-21 and the Phantom. The latter got decals from an old Esci Phsntom kit, nicely printed but despite being prevarnished annoyingly fragile. In particular the formation light strips and the no-walk strips by the wing roots transformed from one piece decals to multi-piece shards - and terribly fiddly such too. Anyway - most got down as planned, but, annoyingly, when varnishing, one of the strip lights tilted a bit, and I realised it too late.
It is what it is, and tbh - the rest of the Phantoms turned out good enough. I'm reasonably pleased.

Today, it's been a busy day with other business, but maybe I'll make an effort to add the matt varnish tomorrow. Then, some detailing and missiles, and that's it. Looking forward to it!

Varnished all five, and also put on a few missiles on two of them. I need to paint more weapons, though, so there'll be a little hiatus before everything goes on. On the upside - the varnish will dry completely. It's a slow drying one, that one..

Away working for a few days now, and finally, the Landy parts arrived today, so I might be distracted further. On the other hand, the weather seems to be deteriorating as well, so then again..

God, the boredom of painting weaponry..

Change your varnish. Xtracrylix dries fairly quickly, especially if sprayed.  Touch dry in minutes.

Not if I want to keep what little sanity I have left, no.

Had planned to get the last missiles done (radomes on AMRAAMs) today, but nope - weather and logistics in an unholy alliance got in between.

Took this when collecting the mid lass from her basketball game. Which they lost, to ice that cake, btw. But sod that - she had a good time.
But the radomes still need paint..

On the upside, I won't bother replacing that Defender alternator tomorrow either, so maybe then..
