LOUD!
The Bell 214 has a 50' main rotor with 35" chord blades and it's not so much that it's "louder" than the
more common 44'/21" and 48'/27" variants, the result is that the frequency is different. When I was
working on helicopters back in the mid-'90s we had "standard" Model 204 and Model 205 in the shop
on a fairly regular basis and one Model 214B that would come in occasionally. On all types there are
some electrical system components related to power generation and distribution, that have to be
adjusted with the engines running and rotors turning. It's done at about 30% rotor speed and the
sound is tolerable on the smaller rotor versions, but with 214 the big blades create sound waves and
a resonance that you can feel in your guts unless you're in or directly next to the machine. Stand
outside the rotor disc and it can be nauseating and it would make the windows in the hangar office
pulse like a speaker diaphragm. The metal walls and structure would buzz. It was very weird and
uncomfortable. Needless to say adjustments were made as quickly as possible.
;D
A 214 flying over has a distinctly different sound from a regular Huey, it's deeper and a bit reminiscent
of a V-107/CH-46 or a V-234/CH-47.

Eric's creation would probably rattle the entire neighbourhood and start folks a puking in the area when
taking off and landing.

Thanks I understand better. (But this was a tiny problem, the important major thing being the incredible model!) ;D

What is that Grumman machine called jcf? I thought I had seen all the tilt-wing VTOL's but obviously not as I have never seen that one before.
