Quote from: Dizzyfugu on January 05, 2023, 06:28:38 AMFirst NiB purchase for 2023: a Trumpeter 1:72 Jagdtiger with Porsche running gear, a whiffy model/vehicle already in itself.
However, I plan to modify it as an Elefant Ersatz, after E-Panzer production had gained momentum: with a smaller 88 mm gun with a longer barrel (L100 insetadof L71), a scratched mantlet to hold it, and an exchange of casemate and engine bay positions in the hull, to reduce gun overhang at the front.

Dizzy mate this I am liking and can not wait to see what you end up with  ;D
I used to have the Dragon Hunting Tiger with the Porsche suspension in 35th..so many track parts it make ya go nuts..over 600 parts to the tracks alone  :o

That's why I stay with the small 1:72 kits, also a space/storage issue...  ;D
I also like vinyl tracks, what seems not to be the norm in this genre....
Oh that's cause us 35th scale armour builders are picky annoying pains in our own arse when it comes to things looking right Thomas mate .
I'll use vinyl tracks mate but only if there's shields so you can't see there's no track sag  ;D
If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .
Over kill is often very understated .
I know the voices in my head ain't real but they do come up with some great ideas.
Theres few of lifes problems that can't be solved with the proper application of a high explosive projectile .

Vinyl tracks work nicely when you have mudguards to hide the staple joint..  ;)

Oh staples aren't a worry for me..I sew the tracks together..works great to strengthen the entire join and very easy to make dissappear when painted and weathered.

The only things I sew on are sails and wounds. Preferably my own. In both cases, one have to admit the result being rather more efficient than elegant.

Which is why I stick with sewing.  Allows me to simulate track sag quite nicely.

Well, in regards to how it'll be finished, i guess it depends on how i imagine the backstory for it but i can see some fading and maybe chipping, scratches, etc being part of it...
My plan for the Corsairs in my stash are mostly for Portuguese birds Let's imagine that Salazar gave into the pressure from the Allies and joined the fight against the Axis, After the war, Portugal buys one or two surplus US aircraft carrier to help patrol the Atlantic and keep an eye on Soviet submarines and surface ships, but also to protect Portuguese colonies and interests overseas.
These carriers would be equipped with Hellcats at first and Corsairs, Bearcats and Tigercats later...

I like it . .good back story and very feasible.

I used to get my mum to sew my vinyl tracks together on those early Airfix kits (Sherman, Panther etc), then I switched to "welding" them using a screwdriver. Last couple of 1/72 scale armour kits I've built have been by the likes of IBG which come with IP tracks moulded in sections.

The Hawk T.2 Conversion set arrived from Colin at Freightdog in Thursdays post. Was destined for the Airfix Hawk, but then I remembered that somewhere in the stash is the Matchbox Hawk 200. I wonder? The search begins.....

I've done the Monogram 1/72 Bearcat as part of this scenario a few years ago but the Hobbyboss 1/48 Bearcat kit i have will get a different treatment and i hope that this time i don't close up the cockpit with masking tape left covering the instrument panel's coaming... :banghead:  ;D
This is one scenario but then there are also the 3 Sea Fury and 2 SeaFang in the stash... Imagine if the Portuguese paid for the HMS Eagle(the cancelled one) to be finished and bought it? That could've also served as an incentive to modernize their naval industry and later, to develop and build their own. ;)

Purchased miself 3 Zeppelins in the last hours of 22. All takom kits (1/350 German P-class, a Q-class and a 1/700 P-class as part of a set combined with SMS Derflinger and SMS Lutzow).

Definitely pleased with the 1/700 P-class and will probably turn it into a WW1 bomber fuselage (Caudron R11-ish). The boats (excuse le mode) won't be built although all smaller parts are interesting for detailing purposes. If some's interested in the waterlinie hulls of Derflinger an Lutzow, just contact me.

Not sure what to do with the 1/350 Zeppelins....yet. They're big, about 50 centimeters in length..
TomZ did a KLM Zeppelin some years ago and it's an interesting idea...
