Quote from: rickshaw on January 10, 2023, 08:25:53 PMThere are some poor benighted fools who think 1/72, the prince of scales, is "too small".  Their loss.  I .look forward to the Ferret.  Finally one that is cheap enough to buy and build - provided the price is right, of course!  The Rotodyne I particularly look forward to!  The rest?  Much of a muchness as far as I am concerned.
Well, when you get to something the size of a B-52 or, B-36, the term "too small" is faintly ludicrous! 1/48 (for example) is ok for modest sized subjects like a Bf -109 or Spitfire but, getting a bit silly when you get to something the size of a  C-130 or, B-29. I agree, it's their loss. There's the cost aspect as well. A smaller, cheaper 1/72 kit is far more likely I think to generate multiple sales and, appeal to a wider audience.

I'm very glad to see the Rotodyne back. I can imagine more than a few turning up here!

With just cause, treated to alot of online hype and expectation by Airfix themselves and then get shafted as they pander to other markets and treat their mainstream to scraps.

4 new tool 43rd car kits, 2 35th AFVs that the armour modellers will welcome, new tool 48th or revised and corrected kits and then 72nd, 1 beginners new tool, 2 alternate  versions and a few reissues with no attempt to correct the noted failings with those kits (missing vents on Phantom kits ).

We've spent plenty on Airfix over the years and supported the brand and then get treated like poo-poo. You can see how many on here are less than impressed and are not likely to be buying many kits from them this year. So they will give us even less next year because sakes will be down because they have given us big all we actually want.

I think more disappointed than grumpy, to be fair.  OK so maybe borderline grumpy 😉

The release programme was being 'bigged up' at Telford by the Airfix Gnomes, which contributed to my feeling underwhelmed yesterday.

I do think also the disappointment reflects the ages and/or stash sizes of forum members - stuff's already been purchased from other sources or built in the past. Or it's not in one's preferred scale.

But I'm sure much will appeal to the wider modelling fraternity and genuinely hope Airfix enjoys healthy sales of the 2023 items.  I'd rather have Airfix with us producing kits that may not always appeal to me but do appeal to (and bought by) many others, than no Airfix at all.

Well, I, for one, am very happy about the 1/48 Gannet! I'll probably only buy one but it will be RW RAN, to go with the Tracker, Skyhawk, Firefly & Sea Fury already in the stash waiting to be built.

A couple of 1/35 Ferrets will probably find their way into the stash because ... Well ... Ferrets!

QuoteUgh...1/72 scale....Why would anyone build such smaller planes in this scale? I can see the bigger planes like the JU52 or B-17 but a plane like this of the bf109? Way to small.....IMHO of course...

Moron (IMO).

I would have liked to have seen the old 1/16 motorcycles in the classics range, but i'm happy with the 'dyne.  Not happy with the wait until Northern Autumn though.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

The modellers condition, happy in our misery!  ;)  ;)  ;)
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

At least we've got the Rotodyne, and I'm sure that  soaring imaginations  and  skilled styrene surgeons can do a great deal with these offerings.

I don't know what hype there may have been from Airfix but it's very rare for anything to live up to any hype so I don't get too excited anyway.

The 1/35 Ferret is a nice addition to the range and it'll be half the price of the Accurate Armour kit.

Again, Airfix have focused on 1/48 aircraft. Not my thing as I prefer 1/72 like all good gentlemen should. Airfix are falling out of that category  ;D
I just might treat myself to a Mosquito PR.16 this summer

My favourite of this years releases? The new box art on the 1/48 Hunter - showing it flying thru Tower Bridge
Nice inclusion of a red bus and black cab in the background - modern versions of both are available from Airfix!

What's easily forgotten is Airfix focused on 1/72 for years after their re-vamp and are now getting round to the larger scales, as well as developing the new 1/35 range and a new 1/43 range.  There's also the new simple starter range to get the kids involved, one of the few firms doing that.

Added to that the current financial situation it's not a wonder that this year's range is on the small side.  Any 'hype' is just normal marketing practices.

NARSES2

Well after e-mailing me to let me know the February edition of the magazine would be delayed until next week it dropped through the letterbox this morning. So must of come from that Spanish newsagent  ;)

As for the new releases ? I wasn't particularly expectant anyway, so neither disappointed nor overjoyed. I'll probably get a couple of the newer tool re-issues and might look at a couple of the vintage kit re-issues as well if only to bring back memories. Must admit I think it will be a lean year across the board, apart from some of the Chinese manufacturers who seem to operate under a different set of economic rules to the rest of the world ?

I'm interested to see what the Post War Tempest V looks like as the initial boxing is for one of the very early Tempest Series I aircraft and there are some subtle differences between those and Series II aircraft. In all honesty barely noticeable, gun barrel length, some spring tabs and wheel hubs, (although there's some disagreement as to when they were changed)  but I doubt if any Series I aircraft saw post war service, so will they make those changes ?
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Some of us already have.  ;D

Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

I've already got a few Rotodynes in the stash, so  an expensive rerelease? No, stays on the shelf. And given the disappointment I felt with the Mosquito B.XVI, I can't get excited by the PR.XVI, even though it has more scope for other versions (a PR32 with the longer wingtips for one), especially with that tediously dull option Airfix have on the box.

if the ferret is a reasonable  cost ill want at least one, possibly more possibly a rotodyne to play with,  aside from that, not my taste but heres hoping they sell well.

What did you find disappointing about the B.XVI?  I'm curious because I built it just before Christmas and couldn't help but feel a bit "blah" about it but couldn't put my finger on what it was.
So I got that going for me...which is nice....
