Quote from: NARSES2 on January 17, 2023, 06:39:04 AMIf some of you want to get an insight into what it takes to run a modern hobby company then the Yesterday channel on UK T.V. has just started the second season of its Hornby : A Model World documentary series. A fascinating insight into what it takes to run a modern hobby company from initial design, through production and eventual marketing. And it doesn't forget the all important financial side of things.

Covers all aspects of their business : Trains, Airfix and Scalextric. Well worth it
I watched the original series! Didn't know until then that Eddie Izzard was a model rail enthusiast.
I really had to laugh at
the comments from the guy checking the rolling stock models. Where he mentioned that they had to make sure they had the right number of rivets and bolts because people do actually count them! 😉😂
Hates rivet counters! Eats JMNs for breakfast!

They've a piece on Jools Holland's layout next week. Looked amazing in the teaser.

I don't know about rivets and bolts but the whole show last night was mainly about the creation of the Flying Scotsman model for their new TT range. The designer was having a problem with the "straps" on the boiler. If he did them to scale they wouldn't show and that would lead to complaints so he had to compromise and do them slightly overscale  ;D

The other piece was the guy in their repair shop trying to fix a couple of broken Stephenson's Rockets. How the hell do you solder something that small ??  :o  He also had a lovely explanation of the "Spares Box"  ;D
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

If anyone does buy the TT Flying Scotsman model train set, please be aware of the length of the siding,  it's a bit short  and won't take the entire length of the locomotive plus the carriages..

 .I missed the "over scale " comment but, it's very valid and, something perhaps rivet counters might do well to remember when they start whining about about how "over scale" certain parts are (like, for example, undercarriage parts!)

If they moulded the landing gear axles to scale they wouldn't strong enough to sustain the weight of the assembled model in many cases.

The 1/72 Revell A400M is such a case, the axles are less than 1 mm in dia. and I had every one of the twelve axles snap off during the build, and had to redesign and rebuild a stronger system.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Don't tell anyone, but there is a rumour going around that   Airbus have modified the A400M undercarriage to match Kit's redesign!!

Hehehehe, I can believe that, yeah.  ;D

I installed the RW test rig for the same landing gear at Filton just before I retired. Little did I know I'd be testing a 1/72 version to destruction a few years later!  :o

  Like me, you found that out the hard way!! I have a 2nd A400 kit to be built. This time I might just drill out the axles and replace with brass rod. Funny thing is, you  cannot really even see the darned things unless you pick the model up so, I really don't understand why anybody would complain if they were "overscale"

LOL - coffee companies have been discovering what the breweing industry figured out ages ago: branded "bespoke" partnerships work:

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Quote from: AeroplaneDriver on January 16, 2023, 09:26:23 AMOne thought...how many of you who wish for more new 1/72 releases are active on Airfix's social media?  I don't use the Electric Twittering Box, but I do use Facebook and Airfix's page is one of the ones I follow.  They do a lot of soliciting on there as far as the new releases people would like to see and the company seems to respond to a lot of comments. Now, I understand that the person running their social media is not the same person making decisions on new kits, but I'm guessing for a company that size the decision makers are aware of the feedback coming in.  Maybe if more people went there and made the kind of reasoned and impassioned argument seen on here for more 1/72 products someone might take notice.

Anyway....just a thought on perhaps a way to make your frustration known in a way that makes some small difference. Or at least get an explanation for the disappointing releases.

They just put a Youtube Shorts video up asking for future product suggestions here: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/t7nCk8mP1rQ

Why not go and have your twopenn'th in the comments?

I've put this lot up:

All 1/72nd scale new tools:
Gloster Javelin
DH Sea Vixen
Supermarine Scimitar
DH Venom (single-seater)
Avro Lincoln

Vintage Classics:
Westland Scout
Westland Army Lynx
Shorts Skyvan

If you want to add some but can't 'cos you havn't got a Youtube account, DM me and I'll add them for you.
