Part way through last year I decided that I should do something to get a bit fitter. Health reasons mainly are behind this, shortage of breath and a wasteline that makes me look more like the Michelin manthan I should, I usually joke that I am under height for my weight but being under six foot tall and haveing by buy jeans with a forty two inch circumference is't not fun, bedsides I want to stay around for a while as I have nearly 1,000 models to either build or finish
So earlier today duering a quiet moment at work I tried to join Active Stirling, but because I was using my phone I found some of the details difficult to fill in correctly due to the small size of the screen so I decided to have another go at home this evening.
I can now say that I have managed to join which gives me access to gym, Ice Rink and other facilities and activities, but I decided that the easiest and gentlest activity I could do was swimming which I have booked and paid for and will happen this friday afternoon at 13:45 which gives me plenty of time to get to the pool from work and as it is on the way home and only a couple of miles from home I am sure I will not be too worn out to get myself home. I just hope no one mistakes me for Moby Dick!

Hope it all goes well for you.

Call me Ishmael...

When I swam regularly I found early mornings before work were best for me.
Good luck with it.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Slight problem with that, they would not be open as I leave for work at 6:45am and I am not getting up any earlier just for a swim that could wear me out. Having a half day on a Friday means I have the ideal opportunity that afternoon.

Well done mate,  swimming is by far the best way to get into a fitness regime, on the assumption you can swim in the first place of course  ;)

When I started work with British Steel we had a small pool in the basement which was really handy, when we moved it got more difficult mainly because the local council kept closing the nearby pools

Stick to it my friend! That's the hardest part.

Just back from swimming, well that's what it was supposed to be but it's been something like thirty odd years since I was last swimming. I gave up after three lengths! The second was not really a full length and the third I had to complete swimming on my back as I was at the deep end and tiering fast so after a rest I got out the pool and came home.
Next month if I manage three proper lengths that will be an improvement which I will settle for rather than trying for four lengths which I think is a bit beyond me at the moment.

Decided to add two builds to the 1950 Group Build and am tempted to add a third although on checking the operational life of the aircraft type it would not have been suitable, oh well, never mind. Probably just as well as I always seem to take forever to get anything buit to a deadline.

Well done!  You have made a start.   Take it gently.....perhaps three lengths every week for a few weeks, then perhaps daringly increase to three and a half.........then four  for a while.....and so on.  In a while you will be less blue whale and more killer whale

I have no plans to do this weekly, well not yet as they wan't money for each session and weekly will soon add up and leave less for aditions to the stash or library! I was planning monthly but may decide to do it every two weeks.

I must admit that I was somewhat aprehensive when actually swimming, didn't want to get my head under water and rather unsure about it all. As I said befor, it's been a rather long time since I did anything like this, it's kind of new and out of my comfort zone doing this but far better than going to a gym.

Better than a Gym is good. And cheaper... ;)
Is there maybe a monthly pass or something that would be more cost-effective?

And yeah, starting slowly is better than taking off with a hiss and a roar and putting yourself off by doing too much too soon.

All the best with your efforts!

The monthly pass only becomes cheaper if I am going more than once a week so not yet.

The starting slowly and not over doing it was why I stopped after three lengths. I have lost so much capability over the years. Very glad that when I got to the pool I decided to go into the common area rather than joining those who were swimming lengths non stop in a fenced off area.

That's the area I join when I go, then it's a couple of lengths (25m) front crawl, followed by a few breast stroke and then some final ones on my back. After that mug of tea and a bacon sarnie

The last time I went swimming I probably could do that and it's what I may set as a target to do, at the moment though, three full and complete lengths of the pool will do as my next target, the first was actually getting myself to go in the first place.
