10 wheels in the kit, and two tailwheels that got lost and I had to scratchbuild them. The glue is drying as I type.

The Concorde tailwheel is a tiny assembly, the wheels themselves are around 2 mm dia in 1/144 scale, so it's a bit of a problem to scratchbuuld.

After a LOT of fiddling I've managed to make a passable version, but still got to paint and I'm not sure I have brushes THAT small!  :o

And when I offered it up to the model to trim the length of the retraction jack, the blasted thing pinged off out of the tweezers and has vanished!

Much sympathy, Kit.  It may be fighting you all the way but as an acknowledged Master of Whiffery  you will no doubt succeed!

You could display your build gear up on a stand if you have one or make one from a block of wood with a bolt or screw or a piece of dowel.

I still can't find the blasted thing after hours of searching.

I've just about got enough bits and pieces, and enough time, to make another one.

Quote from: PR19_Kit on February 07, 2023, 12:49:46 PMThe Concorde tailwheel is
I think that this tailwheel is not necessary on the whif planet of ourselves.
The main wheels support the weight, the front wheels serve to direct the plane on the ground, while the tailwheel may be never used just being a safety device in case a bad pilot choses a too much nose-up position. For good pilots and normal pilots (and for all pilots on our whif planet), no need of this thing at all. That could be considered at least... ;)

i think that Tophe has a point Kit.
If your building it at rest, ( or being loaded)  a quick reference in the story saying "that the tail wheel was set to auto retract, to avoid loading vehicles hitting it as they went under the tail "  will cover a multitude of things.   ;D
the things you learn, give your mind the wings to fly, and the chains to hold yourself steady
take off and nuke the site form orbit, nope, time for the real thing, CAM and gridfire, call special circumstances.
wow, its like freefalling into the Geofront

I totally agree. Isn't it Kit's second law that says and story can be adapted to suit the model? or something like that?

I know it's in a book I have around here somewhere....

Yes, all wholly supportable under Kit's 2nd Law, but I've already superglued the tailwheel doors in place, tiny though they are.

There's a chance to collect a set of proper kit tailwheel doors tomorrow, just a chance.............

Or... maybe, more easy to scratchbuild than tinly retractable wheels: a little retractable skid? Yes?

yes, with a titanium skid (or even more efficient, in the whilf universe)... ;)
