Airfix are asking for suggestions with a Youtube video again. This time the question is:

"What kit would you like us to design that HASN'T been in our range before?"

The video is here: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/tYrWmpe0cCU

If you don't have a Youtube account and can't leave comments, then please SEND ME A PM and I'll put it on for you. Bear in mind that I'm back at work (part time) now, so it might not be immediate.

I just put this list up:

All 1/72nd scale:
Gloster Javelin
DH Sea Vixen
Supermarine Scimitar
DH Venom (single-seater)
Avro Lincoln
FV432
Ferret
Stalwart
British Cold War Infantry (SLRs & Stirlings era)
Westland Wasp
AVRO Canada CF-100 Canuck
AVRO Canada CF-105 Arrow

Well, as none of my previous suggestions have been kitted by Airfix I threw them into the comments (worked this time) plus a fantasy desire.

Copy of my post below;

QuoteI'm going to be greedy & throw in a few;
1/48
DH Sea Venom (2 seater) (RN/RAN/RCN markings?)

1/35
Stalwart
Australian Infantry WW2 (Africa & South East Pacific) / Vietnam / Modern

Off in Pixie-Dust Land;
1/35
Sikorsky CH-53D/E Super Stallion

Pointless asking for an Arrow. Too niche.

I'd add:
All 72nd
DH Hornet
Bristol Brigand
Airspeed Oxford
Avro Anson C.19
Blackburn Skua
Fairey Barracuda
Hunter T7

And at the risk of being awkward, it's pointless asking for niche and unknown prototypes, minimum run aircraft, or huge transport types. All are niche subjects and unlikely to break even, much less turn a profit.  There are enough mainstream aircraft that have yet to see a kit, let alone yet another MB5

I generally agree that they won't do proptotypes, although back in the day they did do the SR.53 and the BV 141. However the Arrow's one of the few very-well-known what-ifs: pretty much the Canadian TSR.2, and Airfix did a TSR.2.

I've added your list, Lee.

Erm, they DID do a Javelin.

The Heller T3 was re-boxed to start with, and rumour has it that the moulds were updated to be the FAW9/9R.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

I've already sent in several suggestions. Not holding my breath. Still waiting for the Avro Manchester/Lincoln/Vulcan B1/B1.A/Victor B.1

Now if you added accurate to the request would that count?  :-\

I never knew that the British Infantry flew Shorts Stirling bombers, I have fired the Bren gun and Stenn machine gun when I was in the Territory Army,  Royal Enginers Searchlight Squadron.
I'm not too sure if Airfix did the Bren gun carrier but they certainly haven't produced a mobile Searchlight with a Land Rover and an armed soldier carrying a Stenn gun.
I replied on YouTube with a list of proposals. A lot more people are asking for the Avro Lincoln B.2 and I mentioned the Avro Shackleton MR.1,  Boeing P-8A, Boeing V-22 Osprey, Triumph Stag,  ATL-96, Sud Sahara,  Avro York C.1,  Lockheed Neptune,  BAe Nimrod MRA.4 and the HS 748/Andover.

And it is pointless to do so for the early V bombers which despite appearances differ significantly enough to mean a complete new kit is necessary, which would be both expensive and divert sales from existing kits. For the hardcore, the aftermarket will cater and Airfix still get the sales.

Yes, once upon a time, in the days of yore, Airfix did indeed produce the odd kit of a niche subject subsidised by better sellers, but those times and that company are long gone.

I fervently wish that people in these threads would understand and accept that Airfix are a business that exists to make a profit. They are not a charity producing unmarketable and poor selling items to frothing at the mouth loons on t'nterweb demanding their particular moon on a frakking stick!

It amazed me that they've re-popped the Rotodyne actually.  :o

But I still may get one, or two.  ;D

An unused tool sitting in a warehouse costs money. Run out 20,000 for sale and you're quids in.

I threw in my broken record 2p worth; Supermarine Scimitar in 1/48 and 1/72.  Also some more classic sports cars in 1/32.  Stuff like Austin Healeys, MGA, Triumph TRs, Lotus, etc.
So I got that going for me...which is nice....
