Lockheed – Dornier CV-14



The Dornier Do 31 is an experimental vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) jet-propelled transport designed and produced by West German aircraft manufacturer Dornier. The development of the Do 31 was motivated principally by interest expressed by the German Air Force in the acquisition of short take-off and vertical landing aircraft (STOVL)-capable aircraft. On 10 February 1967, the Do 31 performed its maiden flight; the first hovering flight of the type took place during July 1967.



In 1968, the US Air Force showed interest in the aircraft and 120 were delivered from early 1969 onwards as the V-14A Vertifeeder. They were mainly operated in Vietnam, flying troops and supplies into improvised landing strips. From 1978, a further 252 examples of the improved V-14C were delivered. The V-14 was operated in the USAF until 1986.



Besides in the USAF, the V-14 / Do-31 was also operated by the German, Spanish, Argentinian and Indonesian air forces.

I can't imagine what one would have sounded like in the RW, not only two Harrier's worth of Pegasuses (Pegasii?) but also EIGHT  4000+lbs worth pf RB-162s as well!

A Rotodyne would have been silent by comparison.

The cammo suits the Do 31 well.

The kit was quite good. Thick fuselage walls. Good fit, no bubbles.
The only fiddly part was getting the wing engine pods on straight.

The funny thing is, that after all the fiddling, I thought it was OK. That was until I saw the first series of pictures that showed they we completely misaligned..
So I had to break them loose, glue them on again, repaint and take new pictures.

Would have killed the vietcongs just with the noise...

Lovely  build Tom ..this was always cool right from the get go   
I've got a similar idea in kind for a 35th scale AH-60 I got..since the day I got it ive been wondering how to make the wings for it...it's missing a couple of rotor blades
