You could actually envisage that in the 1950s during the heyday of "hunter-killer" ASW ops: a piston-engined "hunter" helo (that can barely lift it's dipping sonar) finds the contact, but the equivalent "killer" helo can't carry a 1950s nuke, so they call up a Skyraider to do the deed. The Spad might have special comms/autopilot gear that lets the carrier remote-steer it onto the solution generated in the CIC, a bit like the Ikara missile a decade later.
