Snatched an old Airfix MiG-23B off Evilbay the other day. My Luftwaffe whiff came out quite nicely, so I might do another one, and this was retrieved for less than two quid.

What's that all about?  :-\

Well, 22,50€ so 4€ cheaper than 26,50€... and it wasn't a promotion, just normal price... i have no clue why... and the Trumpeter 1/48 J-10C is 20€ more than the JF-17 but i'm almost sure that's because of new decals and missile sprues, the new PL-15 AAM. Not sure if that's the case with the 1/72 kits but i think not. :-\

Doggy mate your not the only one to see that ..ive seen it quite often here ..this part I remember..a Airfix P51D in 72nd is more expensive than a Tamiya 48th P51 D ..by I think $30 in some shops.
Age I think is part of the reason but it's common with kits of the same age ..it's strange why but could be the importation of where the kits came from and here everywhere is a freaking long way away.
If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .
Over kill is often very understated .
I know the voices in my head ain't real but they do come up with some great ideas.
Theres few of lifes problems that can't be solved with the proper application of a high explosive projectile .

The Canberra P.12 I ordered from Colin arrived today. Strongly tempted with a goldfish bowl canopy on the Cranberry and have it as a trainer or trials aircraft.

There were numerous RW Canberra B2/B6/marks based on these that flew with radomes very similar to - if not actually identical to - the P.12's (and I don't mean T.17s).  A T.4-based trainer for pilots and navs of an in-service P.12 would be absolutely plausible.

Canberra looks so much better with the goldfish bowl than that weird offset canopy.  I say go for it.
So I got that going for me...which is nice....

Always wondered what was the story of that offset cockpit, and had to finally Google. Turns out it was done to avoid redesign of the cockpit interior, relocation of controls, etc. when B(I).8 required a flat windscreen to have even a remotely accurate gunsight, and considering that the crew had never sat side by side, there must have been drag savings too compared to the needlessly wide original canopy.

Why then have the pilot sit on the left to begin with if the navigator or bomber did not sit to the immediate right of him, because the pilot always sits on the left in a plane wide enough for that, and why it's always been so, because single-engine prop jobs usually have clockwise rotating props and tend to yaw to the left, which is why airfield/carrier approach patterns have the planes always turn to the left. Because the pilot is on the left, planes follow right-hand traffic even in the Commonwealth ;) and because of right-handed traffic, collision evasion is made to the right (despite the yaw effect). Conversely, the helicopter pilot has "always" sat on the right because the earliest choppers had a single collective in the central console and as the majority of people are right-handed, the pilot sat on the right so could keep the cyclic stick always in the dominant hand and use the left to operate collective and other controls (also made the side doors simpler when there were no control panels there).

EDIT: having typed that, the story plays out almost like the infamous "why is the standard railroad gauge 1435 mm". :D

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

The concept of tradition in a nutshell.

The best example I have personally is from my wife's family on her maternal side:
When cooking a roast or a ham they'd always trim the ends off before putting it in the oven. Why? Because
that's how her Great-Grandmother had done it and it was passed down to the following generations. Until
late in the old woman's life someone asked her why and if she'd learned it from her mother etc. No, she
said "I didn't have a large roasting pan, so I'd trim it to fit".

;D

A lot is about once a pilot or driver has learned a certain way of doing it, changing it would be confusing and probably dangerous.
Some of it goes all the way back to Roman times.

I remember being in Sweden in summer 1967, just before the change from driving on the left (the right/correct side of the road) to driving on the right (or wrong/incorrect one)    Several locals we chatted to were sure that carnage would result as ingrained habits would be hard to change.

Fortunately the Swedes, being a generally sensible race, coped admirably.

Following a very rapid delivery indeed, I received this decal sheet yesterday. It'll come in handy when I'm completing my Super Sabre as well as a few other planned projects.

You cannot view this attachment.

It looks good in the envelope, so I'm looking forward to try it out on a model.
