Quote from: Gondor on March 10, 2023, 10:54:59 AMI propose a 1960's Group Build or a 1970's Group Build. I'm thinking one this year and the other for next year.

Decennial GBs might be an interesting annual concept.

As there ever a Falklands GB?

Yes but it was a VERY long time ago.

Then its time to dust off the Falklands as a GB option.

I'd definitely vote for it and be in on it.
So I got that going for me...which is nice....

- Phoenix from the ashes GB.  Kit or rendering must be from an already started, or completed model.  If a rebuild, it must be noticeably altered from a previous build.  Just a new paint scheme or marking is NOT permitted.  We all have those WHIF projects that never quite made it over the finish line, or we were never quite happy with or have re-imagined.  Some prior assembly IS required.

I was thinking about this one too.  I like the idea.

Also..

Electronic Warfare-could encompass everything from jamming, to SEAD/DEAD, AEW, and SIGINT.  Decent timeframe scope too I would think with everything from WW2 jammers bristling with all kinds of spindly antennae to F-35s and other stealthy beasties loaded for SPEAR-EWs or similar.  I can see lots of bulbous noses and rotodomes too.
So I got that going for me...which is nice....

They are both good ideas

The Roman GB:

Rome never fell, but developed and evolved into the technological era. Open to any kind of flying machine, military or civilian ground vehicle , boats, ships, spacecraft or figures, as long as it shows signs of belonging to the Empire-On-Which-Sol-Invictus-Never-Sets. Obviously, markings and backstory are going to be the main visual signifiers, but if you can come up with some alternative technology for an eternal Rome scenario, then so much the better.

Interesting idea.  Probably the one GB in which the traditional two-week extension couldn't ever be justified, given the starting points part-builds.

But someone will try to get one! 😂

Might actually be an interesting addition to the annual schedule a bit like the OWGB and call it the "Race To the Finish GB". Have maybe 2 weeks to finish an already started and abandoned project.  To keep it all above board make it something that must have been posted previously.

Would that include also roman friends and foes, like in the ancient Airfix mag. series? I'd like to do some carthagineans

Don't see why not, as long as the backstory involves Rome not falling.

You can go for the obvious, of course, and that's fine:

However the overwhelming likelihood is that Roman uniform would evolve with technological and tactical change just as real-world gear did. Camouflage will likely replace steel armour at some point as the threat shifts from blades to bullets, then body armour comes back in radically different form when Kevlar's invented. A 21st century Roman rifleman wouldn't look any more like a 1st century one than a modern British infantryman looks like one of Cromwell's Roundheads.

True for battledress, but ceremonial dress is another matter.

Picture the Founding of Rome Day parade.  Spit and polished armoured vehicles crewed by crew dressed in full Roman armour, miniskirts, and jesus creepers.

I suppose that  Celtic warriors would gradually drift into modern  uniforms.................except on "Repelling the Caesars" day when some would parade in WOAD!

Of course. But there are infinite possibilities, taking in account also different technological developments.
Think of Hannibal XV crossing the Alps with steam elephants armed with rocket launchers...

Quote from: Gondor on March 10, 2023, 10:54:59 AMWas the list of prohibited topics in the first post complete?

Is there a list of suggestions that almost made it for this year but didn't?

I'm not fully sure what you mean ? It was agreed a few years ago that the previous 2 years worth of GB subjects (previous 6 GB's) would be excluded, and they are, unless I'm going madder than usual ?

As for the second question ? Last years voting will tell you what came 4th, 5th etc, and those subjects are eligible for nomination again.
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.
