I have been inspired by kitbasher's topic https://www.whatifmodellers.com/index.php?topic=51361.0
And I wondered what a Mustang would look like (as drawing not model) with such a rear separate seat with bubble canopy.
I like the result, thanks:

For this GB, I imagine this would be a converted old P-51 for tourism in 1950-51.

Thanks for your enthusiasm.
Alas I lack the skills to do it, from scratch, especially for the rear canopy (even if the Spitfire supplementary canopy would be available in thermoformed plastic, I am unable to use such canopies, sorry). And probably this will not improve, the normal future being my cancers victory over my life.
If you are tempted to build this one above together with your Spitfire Tr.18, feel free to do it (zero Copyright of course, this is friendly hobby), and you could make a topic about it, as model, while I would change this topic's title into "(...) as drawings". And I am continuing to play as drawings with possibilities:

There's a Spitfire Tr9 Conversion kit about, isn't there? I may even have one, so the rear canopy and cockpit bits could fit nicely.

Not only that, it would go in the 50s GB as well!
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

The AZ Model Spitfire IX UTI (Soviet 2-seat) is not the rear bubble type but straight, it seems.
But a scale model with the rear bubble has been built (scratchbuilt?) at

That's frist drawing Tophe mate is perfect..the early 51s low lines make that work beautifully.
The other version..the D model just don't look right  .the lines are too wreid and the back seater wouldn't be able to see a thing .
I seriously like the first one..that's very very doable matey  ;D
If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .
Over kill is often very understated .
I know the voices in my head ain't real but they do come up with some great ideas.
Theres few of lifes problems that can't be solved with the proper application of a high explosive projectile .

Oh yes, the Tr9 conversion is by Brigade Models, and they do it in 1/48 as well.

I did have both, the 1/48 one by mistake..............  :banghead:

Some nice opportunities there Tophe!
Reminds me that there was a Mustang converted to a two seater so General Eisenhower could fly over the D-day beaches for a birds eye view of the invasion. Now I have to check if it was a B or D version.

The normal 2-seat P-51Ds had simply a longer bubble canopy, or with a same length but different curvature to give room for the passenger head.
The normal 2-seat P-51B-Cs had simply lateral windows behind the normal ones (like on the Soviet Spitfire UTI).
What is new in this batch of delirium is the separate cockpit with a second windscreen and rear bubble canopy. <_<

Weird means good for a what-ifers, an airplane is never "too much weird" for us maybe!
For the vision of the passenger or teacher, I just smile personnally, being not a general nor a pilot, just having fun dreaming... ;)

Continuation of the family, no-bubble way, then "turning to bubbles": ;D

If I understand, for related 3-seaters you would prefer the 72 than the 36, yes?

More seriously; there was a Twin-Mustang in this family.
Yes, a two-seater, with crew only on the starboard fuselage: <_<

As well, there were related single-seaters, even if the title referred to the 2-seaters majority in this sub-family;   :-\
