Yeah I think yournon the money there..heat can and does sneak up on ya with out ya realizing it..they drill that into your in the army..hydration is bloody important.

I think it was orange fluro marking paint ..just the way it looked fuzzy and kinda see thru...seen the results of a can which exploded inside a steel tool box..gloss black is still gloss black 😄

I think it was orange fluro marking paint ..just the way it looked fuzzy and kinda see thru...seen the results of a can which exploded inside a steel tool box..gloss black is still gloss black 😄

That's a different one mate..it's like it was a clear coat leaking ..that stuff can go gooey but yeah that's a strange one .
I did have an experience on a farm who was a friend of my dad's.. he had a problem with some dynamite leaking in a old shed..when dynamite leaks it sweats nitroglycerin and then it can become a huge problem..dad called me cause of my experience with that military stuff ...got it sorted ..dug a big hole..super carefully laid it inside..37 sticks in total..set a charge with a good stick and detonated it ..just lit a fuse and walked away..bloody good boom and a much bigger hole 😅

When I was stationed in Hawaii we were across the road from the army base. They started digging for a new building and found a bunch of old ammo from Korean War era. That turned into a big deal digging up a huge hole to make sure they removed it all and taking it out to the range and blowing it up.

I have to admit that would have been fun ..getting to check our all that old ordnance before disposal ...it's sad to have to destroy history but in this case it's also the only way to deal with it.
It does make me wonder now what they found and how much? ..it kinda sounds like a rather decent pile.

Thing is it was old unusable stuff back then and after laying in the ground so many years there was real danger of stuff going of from just disturbing it.

Just after I left there the Navy was dredging Pearl Harbor and pulled up an old Japanese torpedo. Navy EOD took it out to deep water and blew it up. Some history types were all flustered about that. Should have told them to come out and clean out the explosives!

I love the old Monogram kits, especially the 1/48 warbirds, of which i've built the Spitfire Mk.IX and the P-40B.
33 years... and here i was frustrated about a 3 year long build...   Glad you got them going again, they deserve it!

In my time in the army ordnance deposal was not my line of work ..EOD handled that sort of stuff or for our Brit mates Bomb Deposal was the lads to call and even tho we ourselves never worried about that sort of thing ..it's not our concern but you never know what ya come across with the ppl you meet.
Heard the stories from our instructors when we was learning about blowing stuff up and it's huge fun .
Heard of what was found and where and seen the pics and some video during the course..man they've found a massive range of things over the yrs from the normal hand grenade to 4000lb Cookie bombs from WW2 and one thing you never want to mess with is a bloody torpedo.
The Japanese Long Lance torpedo was a very powerful weapon and I think the most powerful of WW2 at one point.. the warhead could bugger anything it hit as every ship sunk by one can prove 😉
I'm not surprised one bit that the navy boys blew that thing..being a torpedo it's a pretty sensitive piece of kit so sorry to the history types that thing is just far to dangerous to dick about with..the same as a sea mine..these really are butt puckering things to mess with.
Bombs found on land are dangerous as hell too but being on land makes life a lot easier and the metal bomb cases are made of is pretty thick so rust isn't much of a problem..heavy surface rust is normal but not thru the casing ..undersea thou..yep no thanks 
I believe there's a ship wreak in a water way in the UK which is loaded to buggery with bombs and artillery shells...if it exploded the blast would be absolutely massive...one dude who checks this thing over for safety checks said but don't quote me that if it went boom it would be like 8 Grand Slam or more bombs going off at once ..seeing that happen would be great..being there and the ppl living there not so much.

When I was a kid growing up in the 50's, early 60's we used to play on bomb sites all the time as there were still a fair few around and they made great playgrounds. One day we went to our favourite site and our local beat bobby was keeping people away as they'd discovered an unexploded bomb. As far as I remember they disarmed it and we were back there a week or later 

They are still finding unexploded bombs in London and other UK sites occasionally  and I suppose in Germany to ?

There's still a huge number of unexploded ordnance out there Chris..all over Europe..tens of thousands of them with out even guessing.
When you consider how many bombs were dropped on the UK and how often they come across them it's easy to get a clear picture of the just how many dud ones there might be.

Not long ago in Germany a 1000lb bomb was found on a job site..the Police and military cleared out damn near an entire neighborhood.
One strange one I read about and saw footage of later was a another unexploded bomb but the strange thing was the weight of the bomb..1750lbs ..it still can't seem to find any hard evidence of a Allied bomb that size ..but I have found German bombs around that size..strange where it ended up and it was dropped dew to how it was in the ground..bloody strange mate.

Still amazes me the number of unexploded WWI artillery shells that are dug up every year in France and Belgium
