Quote from: Wardukw-NZ on April 11, 2023, 11:40:13 PMTime wise you should be fine..the oils I use from Ammo dry within a week easy ..well 5 days ..couple of times the oils have been dry within a couple of hours but that's probably temp related and I do thin it down  so  it flows better.

No need to thin the SMS washes, they're thin enough that I've had to do a couple of layers in most places, & I figured that a week should be quite sufficient.

Thanks, Chris! They're here, now, & I'd forgotten what a noisy bunch they are, & the lad's even noisier than he used to be; can't speak, yet, but very vocal, charging around like a mad chargy thing & into everything. ;D

So, after a week away from the bench; I'm ba-ack!

First matt coat down & she's lookin' good!

Started the (very mild) weathering, which is also looking good!

Going back to the workbench in a few minutes to continue. ;)

PS: I'm considering re-naming her the Avro Winchester, does anyone have any issues with that, if I do?

Winchester is a fair bit further South than both Lancaster and Manchester.  Don't know if that is relevant.

If you want to keep the "caster"/"chester" vibe (can't believe I just typed that  ;D ) then you've got Ribchester in Lancs.

Well, what it comes down to is that, although I am still rather fond of the older name for Manchester, it was used by Avro because the A.V.Roe Coy was founded there.

Lancaster was used by Avro because, at the time, Manchester was within the county of Lancashire, which has Lancaster as it's county town (city).

Lancaster was the seat of the Lancastrians during the Wars of the Roses, so York was used by Avro in reference to that.

Not sure why Lincoln was chosen as an Avro aircraft name but it's possibly because it was an important town in the Danelaw &, later, the Industrial Revolution.

Winchester, however, although much further south, was the seat of the Saxon Kings of Wessex from the AD500's right up until they defeated the Danes in AD1066 before, in turn, being defeated by the Normans, which I figure is as good a reason as any to name an Avro bomber after the city.

Still debating it with myself, though.

PS: Ribchester is, perhaps, rather too small for the honour of having a bomber named for it. ;)

PPS: I just noticed that a route from Lancaster to Winchester, via Manchester, York & Lincoln, would take about 40 min longer to drive than it would from here to my daughter's place in Cummins* on the Eyre Peninsula! ;D

They are all cathedral cities.

Also Lincoln had a very close association with Bomber Command during and after WWII, Bomber County.

Thanks, Chris!

So, Winchester it is!

In the meantime:

Weathering/dirtying is pretty much done (may need a few tweaks here-&-there but nothing more than a couple of dabs).

Going to open up the bomb bay & wheel wells next, & get them sorted before fitting the last of the tiny bits, after which will be a final blast of matt before I fit the turrets & expose the glazing (some of which will need Clearfix to improve their look).

It's a fairly long drive for 60 y.o. me! ;)

When I was in my 20's I used to drive 1400 km home on a Friday just for some of Mum's cooking before driving the 1400 km back to Nowra on Sunday. ;D

It IS a long, and sloooooow, drive in the UK. :(

I used to do a trip of roughly 550 miles to go home from work, mind you I was in the RAF at the time and based in Cornwall and travelling home on leave. Took me roughly ten hours because I stopped often for a break and once for petrol.

Wasn't there a hit song about Winchester?
