Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

What if a door-less Mercedes 300 SL?

Targa style, I would say.

I don't think that Mercedes would be as reckless as to not put a safety guard/rail in the gap.

BMW did that with the Z1, which had vertically sliding 'doors', but they recommended that it wasn't driven them retracted.

Needless to say all the poseur owners did just that!  :banghead:

This is a very good idea. Horizontally sliding?

That might work. I have seen such a solution on a Rolly Royce convertible that had been modified into an open hunting vehicle without doors, a minimal roof and a foldable windscreen for some Arabian sheik/monarch. Simple steel pipes that slid back into matching tubes in the rear car wings, IIRC above the wheel arches. Ugly as hell, though. Even found a pic:

Jeez that's horrible.
Looks like something i'd have built from recycled models when I was 12.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

I hate to think what the twist diagram looks for that thing! But maybe it has a couple of RSJ welded under the floor?
