Quote from: Weaver on April 17, 2023, 05:40:47 AMMind you, now I have, they don't look particularly accurate anyway.
Contributing to the inaccuracy is the weird looking "collar", this is part of the nose radome cover that is supposed to be removed before flight, but on the kit bombs it looks like it was meant to be an integral part of the casing.

The pointed tail cone as depicted on the kit's bombs was intended for supersonic carriage, and even a F-104 loaded with four gasbags and centerline nuke was subsonic or transonic at best, so therefore did not use it (neither did other tactical fighters/bombers, since by the time B43 came around, high-Mach high-altitude penetration was out of the question especially over the Central Front). So on any other platform than B-58 it can be cut away to make the shape more like those in most photos.

Yes, my thoughts exactly: they've mistaken a remove-before-flight cover for one of those 'drag rings' you sometimes see on old bombs (or modern Russian ones) that act as a kind of retardation device, a bit like a simpler alternative to a Snakeye tail unit.

I also think the tail fins are the wrong shape: they should have a 45 deg cut out in the root of the trailing edge, and high speed ones should have a cropped tip giving them tapering span, wide at the front and narrow at the back.

Okay, the package from Special Hobby has arrived. As expected, the SS.11s are in the bag of resin extras, but then so are many parts of the plane, so I'm going to have to be very careful in sorting them out to leave you a buildable kit. I'll let you know (shortly) when I'm ready to send it.

SS.11s extracted and PM sent.

Turns out SH do not, as I had feared they might, mould the launch rails and pylons in multiple tiny pieces.

That's fortunate. Reply sent.
