In the late 1960s, Ireland obtained several Hawker Hunters from RAF stocks. These were former Reserve Squadron planes, and had low airframe time on them, so it was determined to form an airshow team. A lack of monetary resources and trained pilots precluded the use of more than one plane per airshow season, so each was meticulously kept in tip top condition, and even named. The example here depicts the plane named after a famous Irish long distance navigator, Seamus O'Ryan. Crowds were often in awe of the aerial performances of O'Ryan the Hunter.

Or: What to do with an old Nichimo 1/48 scale Hunter F6, besides jumping up and down upon it!
(Amazingly, I actually SOLD one of these a while ago to somebody desperate enough to not wait for an Academy one...weird eh?

Oh..yes..the pun IS atrocious..thank you!

O'Ryan the Hunter, sheesh, you should be belted for that one!    Both the modeler and amateur astronomer in me says GREAT!  ;)

*grin*  That is one of the best double entendre's I have ever seen...love the two tone paint job too !  Fantastic!  I think you should get a double ration of whiskey for building that one. (irish single, of course)

Tophe

Nice bird
Just a question: why these (beautiful) colours? As the upper side colour is different from the underside, this does not like civilian advertisement, but why a combat airplane would feature such bright colours? Maybe camo... apple green over the apple-tree-fields, light green below the green clouds or green skies, yes simply, my question was stupid...
[the word "realistic" hurts my heart...]

And Alvis me laddy,

Was the Hunter display aircraft for the next season named after the famed Irish seafaring adventurer of old, Niam Rodd?  The one known in the legends as Niam Rodd the Mighty??

I'll be needin' me coat now, dear lass...

Datguy...ow! But yes, you're right!
Tophe: Since it's irish, it would never be in a fight...Irish never get into fights... <_<
Actually, it's just for airshows only in that scheme. If it was to ever be a combat aircraft, I imagine the Irish Airforce would have used a beautiful version of Japanese "Spaghetti" camouflage, two shades of green over a light blue underside.

Love it Alvis, love it!

Until I read the last line and saw the underside pic. Ginger ale in one's sinuses is hardly pleasant.   ;)

Thanks for another amazing build and a good belly laugh!
