In-progress pics of new whiff...

Here are some in-progress pics of the model I have been working on the last few weeks.
It is the Dragon/DML 1/48 scale Ho 229B, this model is being built for somebody else and he wanted the model built wheels up in a clean configuration.
The model will be gloss coated tonight and decaled this weekend.

After this model is finished I will build two more Ho 229Bs for my collection.


This first pic is of the Ho 229B and the wing center section of the Ho 229B I am building for myself in the background.

No Batman logo on this one, however if another Batman movie is made I think the Ho 229B would be a good choice for his new Batplane! Unlike other movie  Batplanes this one could actually fly.

This has been the best fitting DML kit I have built so far, the fit of the nose section is a little tricky and the top and bottom wing center section halves don't match up very well which WILL effect the fit of the wings later on so be prepared to do a bunch of sanding. The radar operators seat is slightly too tall and will prevent the canopy from fitting correctly so sand the base of the seat down to avoid that problem.
Also the joystick in the instructions has it shown to be put in backwards, I glued mine in the correct position.
Compared to the 1/72 scale DML Ta 152C this kit goes together like a Tamiya kit.

After the war ended and the Ho 229 V3 was captured American Army Airforce Intelligence personel described it as a twin engined bat plane so the Batman logo seems correct for this a/c.

My other Hortens will have camouflage like this one except I plan to add a scribble of RLM 81 and RLM 82.

Sadly this model won't be in any of my airfield pictures because I am building this one for somebody else and will be sending it to the buyer very soon.

All the decals are now on it and it looks pretty good so far, all I need to do on it now is highlight the control surfaces, spray some matt clear on it and add the nav lights and its finished!

If the weather clears I will take a few pictures of it and post them Sunday.

The Hortens I am building for myself should go very quickly now that I know what to expect from this kit. It will take longer to paint than to build.

This is one of those kits I regularly go looking for on eBay. Never had any luck, but I'm a persistant charecter, and MX1's model is the perfect reason to keep hunting !

In a few hours I will post pics of the completed Horten. Its drying right now.
I also am a big Horten fan, the Ho 229B looks much like a modern day stealth aircraft.

Like most other Dragon kits it will likely be released again at some point in the future, its too nice of a kit for them not to!
If its a rarely seen kit on e-Bay than I am not surprised, it is easy to build (for a Dragon kit) and looks good after its built. Who would want to sell theirs?
If Dragon does release this kit again I would like to buy at least one more of them.
