Well I finally got this little beastie finished. As explained before, the wings, engine, horizontal stabs and bomb are from the Airfix Me-109G and the fuse is from the Airfix Avro 504K. The canopy is a Squadron vac for a Zero and the rear turret is actually from a clear box cookies came in (I always keep my eyes open for anything remotely useful for modelling). The rear gun is from an Airfix DH-4.

I used Tamiya RAF Sky for the undersides and Polly-Scale Light Olive for the uppers. I would've had this one finished sooner, but I wasted a lot of time contemplating various camo patterns. Finally, the advice of the immortal Kelly Johnson was ringing in my mind, "Keep it simple, stupid!"

The roundel and fin flash decals are from Microscale's 1/144 Yugoslavian sheet. The codes are from the Airfix Avro 504K kit fittingly enough, and the shark's mouth is from a nameless sheet I picked up from the LHS bargain bin years back. I have a ton of decal options now thanks to Phil P, and I spent about a day sorting through them. The entire time, I kept trying to think of the most plausible backstory for this build and what decals would work best. What country was most likely to have parts from Me-109s and Avro 504s and would be desperate enough to try to marry the two? Why 1943 Partisan Yugoslavia, of course!

Here's a shot of the underside, showing off those menacing gun pods and bomb.

This build had a few challenges apart from the fit being "typical Airfix". For the canopy, I originally had plans to use the clear blister pack some sanding sticks came in, but I miscalculated some measurements and was forced to find something else. The Squadron vac Zero canopy was a perfect fit as was this bit of clear packaging from some cookies I used for the turret. I always hang on to any bit of clear packaging I find. You just never know when something you might throw away will become useful!

Here's a close-up of the shark's mouth decal on the nose.

I'm really pleased with this little build even though the pics don't do it much justice. When I first started playing with the parts from the Airfix Me-109 and Avro 504K, this just naturally came together. Even the horizontal stabs from the 109 were a perfect fit into the slots on the 504 tail. I'm very happy to be 3/4 the way through my projects slated for this GB. I promise my next submission will have spats!

Here's the requisite box-shot.

Magnificent Mr Perri, it seems that every build you do, I want!

   Genius, pure and simple!

Another masterpiece! Can't wait to see your ultimate entry!

I knew Mark Knopfler was old, but not that old and Yugoslavian too.
(Ok that's too godamned good looking to be allowed to enter must find excuse to disqualify)

I habve it on good authority that it was a package of chocolate digestives.

BdB...that's awesome ! Love the look of the whole package. The flat bottomed fuselage kinda gives the wings a forward swept look, while the little round tail makes it look so old......love the canopies as well. The whole thing looks kinda 'fishy' to me, like a little shark or somat.

Awesome stuff, thanks for sharing !

This is so incredibly "real" and especially believable for the operating nation.

How do you pull these gems off, Brian?

Do you have plans to mount it "in-flight" mode, maybe on a thin/rigid wire mounted on a wooden base?

Very cool!

Thanks for the comments gents. Baz, the MeAvroSchmitt is now part of the ceiling fleet in my kitchen, in a permanent attack dive aimed at my George Foreman electric grill. Let's hope it misses, otherwise there'll be no hot dogs for a while.

My 4th entry is all finished and I plan on posting pics soon.

Laughed so hard at that bit that I managed to spray some beer out of my nose...keep that grill clean!
