Thanks to back my ideas, elmayerle (must call you Evans one day!). This is a good idea, after all the TF-41 was the american variant of the spey...
I'm impressed by the fact that the americans had  three  modern turbofans in the late 60's
- TF-41
- TF-30
- P&W F-100
:)

French Soldier: Of course not. You're English types.
King Arthur: What are you then?
French Soldier: I'm French. Why do you think I have this outrageous accent, you silly king?

Well regardless I would rather take my chance out there on the ocean, that to stay here and die on this poo-hole island spending the rest of my life talking to a gosh darn VOLLEYBALL.

Interestingly enough, the roots of all of them run back a ways.  The TF30 dates to the F6D-1 Missileer and has a higher-than-desireable bypass ration for a supersonic engine because of that.  The TF41 has roots in the Spey which goes back to the 1950s, though it is derived from the full-up Spey, not the "Spey Jr." that is the basis for the other military Speys.  The F100/F401 (same basic core, different low-speed compressor and turbine sections) derived from the JTF16 experimental engine of 1964 as did the JTF20 that competed to power the B-1 (kinda lost when one went to pieces at something like hour 49.5 of a 50-hour endurance test).

And, please, it's "Evan", not "Evans".  Mind you, I've been called far worse at times.

QuoteWhy not simply modifying the F-13A Lancer with the Spey engine (instead of the J-79, TF-30 or P&W F-100) ? :P
'Twould work, though I'd base it off the rather later and more potent TF41 version of the Spey (which was demonstrating 26,000 lbt. in afterburner in the late 1960s).
Reworked Spey 205 built for Thrust SSC car gave over 27,000lbs ( but only had a life expectancy of 60mins :o )

Interesting engine history...
