Will die without understanding this world.

GINge!

I'm such a sucker for CF SAR schemes! Nicely done. Wonder if we'll ever see a C-27 painted like that for real?

Captain Canada

Thanks...but you know what I say

Long Live the Buff !

GINge!

I love the buff too!

Alothough my 72nd resin kit of it has THE WORST gap in plastic model history! I keep hoping that since I've purchase a resin kit of it, that someone will do one in styrene. Even if they just scale up the amodel one, it'd still be better than that reson POS!

Captain Canada

Ouch....that's not the Combat Models one, is it ? I hear that one is pretty bad.....

And one of these days I've got to get my old 8mm video into a digital formet. My Brother took the film at Hamilton Intl. Airshow about ten years ago, and it will make even the biggest skeptic a believer !

I've seen one of those resin kits of the CC-115 and didn't like what I saw for how much it cost, made in Argentina IIRC.  I eventually got the Combat Models vacuform of it which isn't the best but for the money it's better than the resin one.  I did get the resin detail set for it though and a Hobbycraft Caribou to cannabilized.
If I'm not building models, I'm out riding my dirtbike

The SAR bird is rather spiffy!

Morning,
Captain Canada, love your BAe-146 thread. As I have blanks of the BAe-146-70 -100 and -200
that I have just cleaned up, I was wondering how I could use them. Then I stumbled on your thread and....Eureka!
I would like to do my take on your drawings if that's ok and ask a couple of questions, Do you have designations for all your versions as in CC-146? CC-116? ? and do you have any suggestions for squadrons/wings?
I've done a bit of research on Canada's Air Force earlier on and still a bit foncused. Is it 'Canadian Air Force'
'Canadian Armed Forces'? 'National Defence/Defense Nactionale'? either side of the roundel? Or what?
           Any help will be appreciated.

It's actually the "Canadian Armed Forces (Air)" under our unified force structure. The designations you mention seem to stem from the various marking schemes our aircraft have carried since Unification in the sixties. The best primer I have ever seen on how our planes are painted up is over at CanMilAir Decals' website, under the heading "Canadian Markings 101". This page has a CT-133 in every marking the RCAF/CAF have used since we dropped the British system after WWII. Currently we use what is called the "FIP" scheme, which has the "Canadian Forces/Forces Canadiennes" on the rear fuselage and the "Canada" wordmark at mid-fuselage. The typeface that the CF uses currently is "Helvetica Medium", although Arial will do in a pinch. We used to use several specific typefaces, and they are available as Truetype font downloads at Simmers Paintsop.

Some other handy resources for the Canadian profiler:

--The Federal Identity Program website which has standards for the FIP program, as well as downloadable "Canada" wordmarks and other goodies

--Scramble.nl's Canadian Armed Forces Overview, which has our currentorder of battle, wing, base and squadron list

--Hegehog Hollow's Canadian Colour Chip list has RGB equivalents for all colours used by the Canadian Forces.

I'm going to post these in the Profiles section as well. Hope they help!

Poor planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part...

... Do you have designations for all your versions as in CC-146? CC-116? ? ...

CF designation numbers are not (usually) repeated. For example, there is the CH-146 Griffon and was the CF-116 (proper designation for the CF-5). So, no CC-146 or CC-116 if we're being pendantic.

For a list of designations and serials, try Bill Walker's Canadian Military Aircraft Serial Numbers site. There is a full list of post-unification CF aircraft designations from CF-100 to CF-188: http://www.ody.ca/~bwalker/post_int.html

Note that Role prefix letters (and names) do change though -- eg: CC-142 was a Dash 8 transport, CT-142 is the 'Gonzo' navigation trainer.

There are a few exceptions on repeating designations. For example, the CH-148 Petrel was to be an EH-101 shipboard helicopter. That order was cancelled but the new shipboard helicopter (Sikorsky H-92) will be the CH-148 Cyclone.

How about a BAe-146 converted to a gunship? Like the Sherpa Gunships HERE and HERE?

Morning,
Thanks for the information and I am still baffled by it all but never mind I'll try and get my head around it all.
I have done my own take on some of Capt. Canada's designs on here- http://www.whatifmodelers.com/index.php/topic,21933.60.html
Many thanks
