Here is another side profile. This time of this stubby little submarine-based and launched fighter. The intakes are mounted dorsally, I've included 20mm cannon under the fuselage and the grey plate is the mounting for the RATO packs. I given the Model 340 the fake, but plausible F-SF-1 designation. No name though perhaps someone can come up with a good one?

Archibald

Never heard about this one... very good profile!
If this plane is a douglas, well its name must start by the word Sky-. Now, have to found the other part...Skysea? Skysub? Skywater? Skymarine ? Skyworld?
Yeeeeeapp! I found abetter idea...
what do you think of...

SKYFISH?

F-SF-1 Skyfish
King Arthur: Can we come up and have a look?
French Soldier: Of course not. You're English types.
King Arthur: What are you then?
French Soldier: I'm French. Why do you think I have this outrageous accent, you silly king?

Well regardless I would rather take my chance out there on the ocean, that to stay here and die on this poo-hole island spending the rest of my life talking to a gosh darn VOLLEYBALL.

I like F-SF-1 Skyfish best myself.

Here is some basic info on the design. Work began in 1952 and Ed Heinemann designed this mini-fighter to fit into a Reglus missile hangar. Grayback and her sister could have then carried two of these fighters. The whole idea was dropped as impractical.

Length was 32ft 11in (the nose cone folded), span 25ft and folded 9ft 3in. It was powered by a single turbojet, what type I'm not sure.

Note on the profile, I've found a mistake when I checked the original plan with the intakes, they should be behind the cockpit, what the dorsal hatch/vent was I'm not sure. I'll modify the drawing, perhaps even cook up another camo scheme!

How about SKYDIVER as a name??

I've updated the picture to show the correct intakes.

Also there is a Vietnam colour scheme. Here is a what-if, the Greyback and Growler are still in service and the few Skyfish still survive. They are converted to special recon aircraft. All cannon are removed, cameras and IR sensor added along with weather radar in the nose. They are launched from the subs far behind the lines and can quicky be deployed and return while the NVA wonder where they went...

Gotta agree with Lancer here, with one small alteration..the plane would be one component of a Duoglas sub/plane system with the plane being SKY and the sub being DIVER, and the two together being SKYDIVER...dun dun dun dun dun...da dee da da....da da da da dee dee dee da duh dee duh daaaaa..."This is Space Intruder Detector..."

Based on having seen a few episodes of UFO, and a movie made by combining a few episodes, I really think the paperback novelizations published in this country were better written than the shooting scripts. ;)
