Not content with NOT quite finishing my 1:72 F-20, I decided that I liked the shape and size of the wee thing so much, that I should invest in a 1:48 one. So here's the result.......

The Tiger II and one Tigershark came as a 'twin-set' courtesy of the eBay fairy, as did one of the other F-20's. The third one came from our own Martin Goldsack (MartG).

Here's the plan. I'll build all four side-by-side, the F-5E has an optional recce nose that I'll somehow persuade to fit one of the F-20's. I've already got colour schemes in mind.... One will be blue, one brown, one grey and one green.... easy eh ?

Ian,

Depending on just how the kits go together, I've enough background on that family to offer some help as to the best places to cut and splice.

Ev,

Isnt the Mono kit based on prototype 1? I noticed when I started mine a few yrs back that the nose was too shark-like when compaired to the Has. kit.

Probably, though I'd have to look one over to be certain.  One tip off would be if the instrument panel has gauges rather than displays.  Number 1 prototype shared a lot more with the F-5e than later prototypes.

Ev, these are going to be nowt more than exercises in painting. Y'all know that I'm far too lazy to make truly accurate What Ifs. I do these to relax between real-world projects..... Here's an example.

I bought a Hasegawa 1:48 Hellcat to build right out of the box in overall Glossy Sea Blue - A one-week project, right ?

Here's how it's gone so far:

So, I bought the Cutting Edge resin corrected cowl, the Eduard set, a set of Falcon Canopies, and from those wonderful folks at Ultracast a replacement seat and prop/spinner. Oh yeah and I offered the whole project as an article to Neil Robinson, just to add that extra bit of pressure onto m'self  :( .

Weekend project..... hah ! . So that is why I'm restricting my Whiffing to just throwing different coloured paint and decals at the plastic bits. Just no self-control y'see !!

Well, if you don't manage to pull it all off, there's always this alternative:
