Maybe put a cannon or gatling gun in the back? It could also be set in the Algerian conflict.

Since the French used quite a few "left over" bits of German equipment post-war,  a PaK-40 (Roden has at least one kit with one)  would be believable, and it would look cool.

Hmm if someone is interested by Noratlas gunship, I can check my Fana de l'aviation collection. I remember a pic of a door-mounted heavy gun... PM me...
King Arthur: Can we come up and have a look?
French Soldier: Of course not. You're English types.
King Arthur: What are you then?
French Soldier: I'm French. Why do you think I have this outrageous accent, you silly king?

Well regardless I would rather take my chance out there on the ocean, that to stay here and die on this poo-hole island spending the rest of my life talking to a gosh darn VOLLEYBALL.

Didn't the French use the Noratlas in Indo-China?

And, uh, didn't the USAF use the F-15?  ;)

Still, Noratlases are cool  B)

It was too early! France used Dakotas at Dien bien Phu, and a US volunteer group flew Fairchild C-119. In vain...

I've found the gun mount pic! someone PM me on the subject ;) so here's the result.
It was a 20 mm Oerlikon gun, and according to the magazine "despite the very  robust  mount, recoil was still a problem"

The pic as it appear in the magazine...

A bit dark, so I've improved it...

PS A digital camera can make  an excellent scanner if you use it correctly.

Ya, but not at this stage and not in this role !

The Penguin is taking shape ! New nose ( from a Matchbox Skyknight ) and some 7.62 mm guns, as well as a big grenade launcher gimmick in the rear door.

A zombie reanimation of a thread, but this page has some exterior shots of the Noratlas gunship.  Actually mounted two 20mm cannon, both AME 621.

http://d520.online.fr/livres/n2501/accueil.html

One side-firing, the other firing aft from the rear doors.  Deployed to Libyra for a month in 1970 but the text says that the noise in the cabin made commands nearly impossible to hear, plus the floor wasn't sufficiently strong for the recoil.

Might have been better trying with the MG-151 cannon as used in the H-34 Pirates, much lower recoil.
