Sukhoi Su-24M

Aircraft history:

Tactical bomber Sukhoi Su-24M buno 6421823 was build on 18.11.1987 in Sukhoi factory in Tbilisi, USSR.In 1988 was sold to Czechoslovakia in package of 18 bombers Su-24M which may be particularly compensation of non owned bomber air force in Czechoslovak Air Force.All of them land on 5.10.1988 in Prague-Kbely AFB where were assumed by Czechoslovak Air Force and on 7.10.1988, they were transfered to Náměšť nad Oslavou AFB by Czechoslovak pilots trained in USSR.Here was from delivered planes formed the 4th and the 5th squadron of 20th fighter-bomber regiment and this plane was assumed in 4th squadron, flight C where was allotted to crew consist of pilot 1st.lt Petr Skopal and operator 1st.lt.Miriam Zelenková.

After beginning of war in November 1989, plane was for the first time embattler at night of 18.11.1989 when it bombed enemy chemical and oil installation in Regensburg which was hit by general purposed bombs FAB-500 dna fire bombs ZAB-250.On next night, 19.11.1989, aircraft bombed in two detterend bombing raids Wien where it set in fire residential sector and factory in north of city by fire bombs ZAB-250.

On 20.11.1989 was plane used with other Su-24M for bomber raid over Paris.It's target was Charles de Gaulle airfield which attacked with other two bombers. After take-off, bombers fly in low pass along Austria-Switzerland border and French border was crossed near Basil. After entrance to territory of de Gaulle airfield, bombers attacked runways by penetration bombs BetAB-500 and after that, they attacked planes on runway by general-purposed bombs FAB-250 and completely destroys three of them.In return, bomber meet a group of british close air support which were transferred from Great Britain to Munchen and near Nancy, bomber attack enemy Sepecad Jaguar piloted by capt.William O'Connell and shoot it down by two missiles R-60.Capt.O'Connell bail out from burning plane by ejection seat.

On 21.11.1989 was plane for operation Herostratos, two bomber raids over Munchen in revenge of maj.František Vyskočil and capt.Tatiana Lešková, crew from 20th fighter bomber regiment which was shooted down over Munchen on 18.11.1989 by AAA and which was as war criminals shooted at morning 21.11.1989 by german soldiers.During operation Herostratos bomber bombed munchen by fuel-air bombs ODAB-500 and with other bombers from 20th fighter bomber regiment unleashed many serials fires in city.Next night is target for this bomber Karlsruhe and its residential sector.

On 23.11.1989 is unleashed operation Ark during it bombers from 6th fighter bomber regiment, 7th fighter bomber regiment and 20th fighter bomber regiment attacked dams Lipno I and Lipno II in south of Bohemia.Bomber is armed by rocket-booster accelerated penetration bombs BetAB-500SShp and it's target was Lipno I dam.During attack was 1st.lt Zelenková wounded by AAA shrapnel to heat anr right shoulder and 1st.lt.Skopal must make emergency landing in Náměšť nad Oslavou AFB.1st.lt.Zelenková is send to hospital and in crew substituted by 1st.lt.Libor Soukup.With this crew is bomber send for it's last bomb raid against enemy units near Freistadt on 24.11.1989.

After the end of war, bomber stayed in 4th squadron of 20th fighter-bomber regiment and in 1999 was particularly modernized by new laser-tracking unit and new ECM systems.Today bomber fly in 20th fighter bomber regiment with crew pilot capt.Jan Adamec and operator 1st.lt.Martin Augusta.

Camouflage

On the plane was applies four-colours camouflage (two green colours and two brown colors) with light-grey bottom parts (they was after first combar flight ensembled by dark-grey and black stains).In vertical tail fins was applies unit mark of 20th fighter bomber regiment (NA-4C, in translation – NA as Náměšť nad Oslavou AFB – 4 as 4th squadron and C as C flight), regiment number of plane (63) and badge of 20th fighter bomber regiment (plane on the badge is Su-22M4, best aircraft used by Czechoslovak Air Force in its history-remark of author).On the left side of fuselage, under canopy is nick of the plane "Flyight Lighter" and eight matches as marks of completed bomber missions and one sign fot shooted down Jaguar

1st.lt.Petr Skopal *2. 4. 1961, +19. 8. 1997

Petr Skopal was born on 2.4.1961 in Česká Lípa.After passing of piloting training was send to 1st fighter regiment in České Budějovice AFB where fly on fighters MiG-23MF, ML and MLD.In his own request was in 1987 transferred to 20th fighter-bomber regiment where first fly on Su-7BKL bombers and later was choosen for training for Su-24M bomber.He participate in transferring of delivered bombers from Prague-Kbely AFB to Náměšť nad Oslavou AFB and after that, he was as pilot with operator 1st.lt.Miriam Zelenková nominated as a crew of bomber Su-24 buno 6421823.They fly in peace times and during November war, he make eight bomber raids (seven with 1st.lt.Zelenková,, last with 1st.lt.Libor Soukup and with them fly to the February 1990 when 1st.lt.Zelenková was restored to health and returned to the service).In December 1989 is promoted to the captain and in June 1990 is promoted to the major.In September 1990 he was getting married with Markéta Pavlíčková from Jesenice and in January 1991, his son, Jiří was born.
Maj.Petr Skopal continued in service in 20th fighter-bomber regiment till 19.8.1997 when died during car accident near village Březník.


1st.lt. Miriam Zelenková *9. 11. 1962

Miriam Zelenková was born on 9.11.1962 in Ostrava.After passing training for radiotechnic operator, she is transferred to the 1st command and reconnaissance regiment where fly as operator in Mi-8PPA choppers.In 1988 was choosed for training for operator in Su-24M bombera and after thet, she was transferred to 20th fighter-bomber regiment where was assigned to the crew of 1st.lt.Petr Skopal.With them she fly until 23.11.1989 when was during Operation Ark wounded by shrapnel and send to hospital where she stays until February 1990.After that she continued in fly in 1st.lt.Skopal crew.
In July 1991 she was getting married with Jindřich Hlaváč from Třebíč and shortly after that she leave active duty and went to the maternity leave because in December 1991, hers twins, Josef and Martin were born.After maternity leave, she returned to service and after renewal training she return to flying as captain.Definitely she leaves active service in 2001 as major.Today she lives in Třebíč where she teach in Technical High School Třebíč.

Thanks. Yes, it's a repackaged Dragon. Give a bit of work, but it's worth the effort.

Interesting bomb load mix - looks to be a bunch of FAB-250s or FAB-100s but what is the go with the single front bomb (looks like a RBK-250 cluster bomb)?

I gotta admit, I like that bomb load.  It makes me tempted to get one and "replacement" MER racks - replace the tanks with a six-rack each wing glove, hang a Two-Four on a Sukhoi Two-Four.  Of course, I'd be tempted as well to paint it in some kind of Postal Service markings... Express Post, Special Delivery!

Sweet job overall on the Fencer though.
Putty-fu, Scratch-jutsu and Bash-chi, the sacred martial arts of the What-If. Mastering them, is Ancient Chinese Secret.

Just your friendly neighbourhood Mad Scientist and Ship-whiffer.

Overkill? Nah, it's Insurance.  So are the 20" guns.
