Well I know the controversy surrounding this -future- aircraft, but in every case here's a cool profile from wikipedia.

French Soldier: Of course not. You're English types.
King Arthur: What are you then?
French Soldier: I'm French. Why do you think I have this outrageous accent, you silly king?

Well regardless I would rather take my chance out there on the ocean, that to stay here and die on this poo-hole island spending the rest of my life talking to a gosh darn VOLLEYBALL.

Is it me, or are the people at Shorts Brothers Aircraft going to be really miffed when they find out Airbus dusted off the Belfast plans?

It's still a C-130 wannabe!

Hmmm, the new Embraer C-130/A-400 competitor will enter server before A-400, and beat C-130J, and take all orders from A-400 AND  C-130!

Naughty russians who also stole the Belfast plans to build the An-70...
But your perfectly right, I always refer to the Belfast as the A400M of the sixties

Embraer is studýing (i cant spell this word) a turbofan powered competitor for the C-130J and A-400. It will perhaps use 4 volvo turbofans, of the type found on the A-318.

The A400M project is one of the reasons why BAE Systems divested itself of Airbus.  That's all I can say...

...Other than nice profile, and I too hope to see it in the air one day.  Maybe in CCG colours in the same capacity as the HC-130H (or EC-130V!  A400M with a radome similar to the An-72 (forward swept tail, radome on top), that'd be neat).

Eh,Personally I think they should have stuck with the four turbofans of the FLA design and had a mini C-17.

QuoteEh,Personally I think they should have stuck with the four turbofans of the FLA design and had a mini C-17.
Aparently they found it was too expensive and complex.
I mean, to allowed landing on tactical runways, the C-17 has a complex and expensive thurst reverser. This was too much for Europe, which prefered turboprops (easier to reverse at landing).
Other reason is the fact that the A400M is much lighter than the C-17 so turboprops could do the job.
Turboprops (and propellers) had much evolved over the years, and the A400 nearly reach 800 kph (it is much quicker than a Herc or a Transall limited to 600 kph or so).
