Nope! Ground-attack: STOL rough-field capability makes it perfect for the Marines IMHO. Sort of halfway between a Hornet and a Harrier.

In this What-If Scenario, I was just thinking that:                                                

If a sufficiently leftist, anti-American government came to power in Sweden, couldn't they (in a spirit of socialist solidarity) perhaps then supply Viggens to the current communist government of Cuba (with or without Fidel).
As far as replacing American equipment on the Viggen, couldn't Sweden produce equivalent equipment from their own industry, or get equivalent equipment from another nation such as France or Russia?

Its perfectly possible. Be expensive though, but I don't see that stopping them.

IIRC BAE and SAAB have looked at replacing American equipment on the Grippen to make it easier to export, so it would be possible with the Viggen.

Hi Everyone!

Another nation that could be a Viggen export customer could be Nicaragua.  (Didn't they get Su-25's at one time?  That would sure give them experience with jets.)

Nice Croat Viggen.  And I love the paint scheme on the Canadian bird (even if it is simply greys.)

Another scheme I liked was the all white viggen the Swedes had during the '80s:

The STOL abilities of the Viggen might come in handy on the many islands of the Philippines and Indonesia.
