Speaking of whiffing, anyone have any ideas on lengthening the fuselage of an F-20 without affecting its COG?
er, do what they did to get the F-5F and add a nice sized plug behind the cockpit.
Splice in the cockpit section from a F-5F - leaving the aft fuselage and the F-20 nose the same - and seal the rear cockpit, extending the aft bulkhead of the front cockpit all the way to the canopy frame.  The alternative, if you're feeling adventurous, is one proposed by the F-5 service engineering group and shot down by Northrop upper management (it didn't come out of Advanced Design after all...) wherein the fuselage was stretched ahead of and behind the wing and the wing was enlarged enough to add another stores station on each side while keeping the same planform.
