Not being a big Airline modeller I need some advice on what off the shelf colours are suitable for QANTAS.

The reason I ask is that I recently picked up the Revell re-release of the Boeing SST and I am going to do it in 80's QANTAS colours.

Anybody know of where to get some info on airliner decals?

If you're just looking for some reference pics do a search for 'Quantas' on hte photo search engine at airliners.net

For Quantas decals you may want to look at ebay, there always seem to be a bunch of airliner decals on there when I search for other decals.
So I got that going for me...which is nice....

That won't work, since it's not "Quantas" it's "Qantas".  Which, as I'm sure we all know, is actually an acronym for Queensland and Northern Territory Air Service, right? :)

But www.airliners.net is a great source :)

Theres a function on Airliners.net Photo Search Engine that allows you to specify the the date.  Click on this & select the year you want, or select the 'whole 1980's' oprtion.  Then it's just a matter of picking which photo's you want.  The search engine is pretty powerful, as well as date & airline, you can slect by aircraft type, country & other details.  Not all the aircraft or airlines etc are on the pull down lists, you can do a search by keyword for ones you can't find.

JetPhotos.net is very similar.  I tend to use airliners first as theres more photos & you generally seem to get a better match, but it's pretty good none the less.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Another Question

Roughly what scale is the Being SST kit?

Alvis 3.1

As far as I know, it's 1/200 scale.

He COULD have meant QUANTAS, the little known Australian Low Cost High Volume Discount Airline, that flew in the mid 1980s between Canberra and Bolivia. Apparently, there wasn't enough volume for discount trips between the two locales, so the airline folded after two weeks of service.

Still, round trip Canberra/La Paz, family of 12, only 200 bucks Au!

Airfleets.net is good for finding the exact number of aircraft in an airlines fleet.

And don't forget Xtracolour do a tinlet of Qantas Red :)
