Hello all:

So I woke up this morning and decided the first thing I'd do is pull out a couple of 1/144 F-14s I've been working on and stick a few more bits and pieces on to them.

I get the parts cut from the sprue and reach over and grab the nearest square bottle with a bright green cap (without looking, my brain told me it would be my Tamiya extra thin liquid cement) and proceded to apply the "cement" to the parts and connect the parts to the models.

The parts did stick, but only barely, the plastic was slightly softened but nowhere near enough to make a good weld. I pondered what could be wrong with my "cement"

By this point my eyes had booted up and made their usual slow dial up connection to my brain and revealed that my "cement" was actually my Mr. Mark Softer playing games with me.

So, what kind of games to your eyes and brains play with you?

Hmmm, ive been modeling at 3 am in the morning (1st of january, i had been awake the whole evening) and ive been modeling just after getting out of bed (ususally saturday or sunday at about lunch time) but ive never made a stupid mistake like that. I however did once use primer thinking primer was just normal paint. The perfect paint scheme was ruined

I also learned a looooong time ago never to build models when I'm sick, drunk, or hung over.  Fortunately I don't do the latter two any longer (those days are long gone along with my youth), and I've (knock wood) been healthy for a number of years now.  Too bad I don't really build models anymore.

The damn Internet has put an end to that! :)

My favorite is being too tired late at night and slapping together the fuselage halves with the following failure(s):
a. missed putting in the required nose weight
b. missed putting in the cockpit
c. missed putting in the tailwheel
d. any combination of the above.

I have determined from first hand experience that it's possible to install the side console parts in the Tamiya 1/48 F4F-4 Wildcat *after* the fuselage and remaining cockpit parts are assembled!

this is an occupational hazard for every modeller.  <_<

mind you it also has a close cousin of shifting noseweights.

this happened to me with an F-32 that i built in late 2005. all done and dusted in
360 sqn RAF markings and i went to put her in the display case. there was a loud
clunking noise which was rather baffling. when i finally twigged that it was some of
the noseweighting, the only way out of this was to cut out a panel on the underside
of the fuselage and eventually the small tyre weight fell out.

i laugh at it now,  :D but it was some thing to learn from.

King Arthur: Can we come up and have a look?
French Soldier: Of course not. You're English types.
King Arthur: What are you then?
French Soldier: I'm French. Why do you think I have this outrageous accent, you silly king?

Well regardless I would rather take my chance out there on the ocean, that to stay here and die on this poo-hole island spending the rest of my life talking to a gosh darn VOLLEYBALL.
