Hi everyone,

Just thought I'd share with you what I picked up at Wal-Mart the other day. 21st Century Toys is now selling their 1/32nd scale models as unpainted kits, the detail is nice, it is well molded, decals are beautiful, a prepainted pilot (painted better than I could do) and best of all it was under ten dollars! :)  Only drawback is the major assemblies are done with screws. Along with the Macchi they have the Zero, Bf-109, Corsair and Stuka.  More discussion on the this kit is here.  Now I need to figure out what do with it (maybe some spats? :D ), I know odd-ball 1/32nd decals are hard to find. Please post your ideas, thanks in advance.

Ideas so far:
>Captured Soviet
>South American
>Spanish
>Hungarian
>Finnish
>Romanian
>Czech
>Yugoslavian
>Israeli
>Canadian with a T-tail ^_^

sounds good! If only i can find one in denmark at same resonable price

As for assembly by screws, its no big deal. I was working at an airport just before christmas (school arangement) and i was showed the paint shop (and even got to paint a little!), and while there i was told nowadays every single rivet is filed down, even on veteran aircraft, so a bit of putty on the screws,  and it will be fine -_-

I saw the Macchi and Zero for the first time today in Wal*Mart.  I'd never even heard of these kits before and was wondering if it would be worth plonking down the $9 to try one.  The Macchi sure is s sleek aircraft...
So I got that going for me...which is nice....

My question is, where is the line between "model kit" and "toy requiring some assembly"?  As far as I'm concerned, the 21st Century stuff, while very nice, are toys.

The main thing that kept me from buying one today was the mention on the box of "retractable landing gear" and "opening canopy".  For me those both set off alarm bells.  Lord knows, I'm a million miles from being a JMN, but to me such working features are most likely at the expense of accuracy.

There are other aircraft in the works: ME-262, Mig-15, F-104 and others that I can't remember right now.

The company has a number of serious modellers on their staff, some who actually make a living out of modelling and have actually written books on the subject, not to mention have won national competitions with their models.  One of them is a member of the IPMS club I belong to, and so we get the treat of seeing some of these model/toys as they get developed.   B)

There has always been a raging debate between the "toys requiring assembly" and "model kits". Considering that I have seen two parts models (Lindberg monster figures) and complex toys (mostly japanese stuff) , I tend to view it that quality (which is in the eye of the beholder) cannot be a deciding factor (and fidelity to the subject is even more dubious as a determinator see old Lindberg , Aurora, Frog etc...model kits) so everyting which is plastic parts on a tree IS a plastic kit , so yes the Kenner Star Wars toys are kits (sometime "better" than the corresponding MPC kits) and the GI Joe toys are kits (much much better than Revell's GI Joe kits)
so this 21 Century items are for me kits

I did see a Zero in my local Wally World but what caught my eye were 2 new planes in 1/18.
They had 2 versions of the Mig-15, one in Aluminum with red nose and N Korean markings and the other in Chinese markings and the multi stripe camo.

The other was a F-104 in SEA colors.
If I had an extra $120 I may have bought all 3.
