I recall reading somewhere the RN had considered built LPHs comparable to the USN Iwo Jima Class rather than converting Albion and Bulwark.

Does anyone here have any knowledge of the proposed design, drawings, etc for these LPHs???

I would think as SHARS enter the fleet a small number ( 4-6?) could be embarked as well.

P.S.- if built- opens possiblities for Albion, Bulwark, Centaur being picked up by other Nations to use as a CTOL or Vstol carriers- any nominations????

Yeap in "Rebuilding the Royal Navy" there are a couple of drawings of LPH type vessels, one lot that led to the development of invincible throough various cruiser/carrier combo's and another under the assault ship section.

In the later one looks like the Engadine but of a fealess size with the front half of the ship superstucture and larger hanger with the aft half pure flight deck. The other being a through deck design in a style similar to Ocean but intended to replace the Commando carriers.

Bulwark was looked at by Peru and possibly Chile to act as a VTOL Harrier carrier in the late 70's.

Some fascinating stuff for (another!) alt-history Falkland war...
King Arthur: Can we come up and have a look?
French Soldier: Of course not. You're English types.
King Arthur: What are you then?
French Soldier: I'm French. Why do you think I have this outrageous accent, you silly king?

Well regardless I would rather take my chance out there on the ocean, that to stay here and die on this poo-hole island spending the rest of my life talking to a gosh darn VOLLEYBALL.
