Cleaning off your models

So, I am sitting here this morning, getting ready to shoot pictures of the P-38m, and going over it with a soft cloth, the brush, the little vaccuum thingy.  It hits me. Why not just use the airbrush with no paint in the cup? Adjustable pressure? Yep. Fine control? Yep.

I am sure most of you have already figured this out long ago, I feel kind of stupid that it never occurred to me before.

Yes I tried that too, after knocking off lots of tiddly bits.  But it doesn't clean the models very well I found, there's a very thin film which just refuses to move, so I end up using a large paint brush instead.

I've never tried an air brush, like Robert I've tended to use brushes but rather than a paint brush I've used one of those very soft make-up brushes.  You can press hard without risk of damage & those soft bristles will get anywhere.  Don't borrow the missus's one she normally uses, it'll be covered in make up which is hard to get it all off & you'll get castrated into the bargain!  Either buy a new one, or (particularly at this time year) raid one of those make-up gift sets that tend to in the back of a drawer & forgotten about.

There's often plenty of goodies to be found in these box sets.  Tweezers, eyebrow brushes are great for detail, manicure sticks are good for applying filler (especially the double ended ones), nail buffers are good for getting a nice finish after sanding.  I've not used them yet, but I saw in an article that make up sponges are good for pushing into spaces you want to mask, they completely fill any gaps.

I regularly raid the wifes make up box!  Like Radish I suppose, but I guess that's more for the Rocky Horror trips!  ;)
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

I thought it was common knowledge that Radish had his very own make up box so he doesn't need to raid his wifes one.

I used to use the big make-up brushes too, but then came the messy divorce...

Monica doesn't wear make-up, never has, so now I'm using one of those brushes that you sometimes see at auto shops and the like - basically a metal tube with some moderately stiff nylon bristles. I think they're normally used for brushing on grease or something.
