Outstanding work!!! I need to find more time to build- you're giving good ideas and inspiration!

the FFG upgrade- would it be feasible to mount a 5 in gun forward of what I think I see as a VLS? Perhaps Harpoon canisters amidships somewhere? I have a damaged FFG that needs to be reconstructed- it was attacked on a pond by a Cairn Terrier  :D

While I'm thinking of it- I found a website ( Kitsune? ) with numerous WiF, future ships. One was a reconstructed USS Massachuetts equippped with 16" guns forward, new 5 in replacing the old twin 5/38s, Harpoon, VLS and Aegis! absoultely
great line drawing. I pulled a revell 1/720 mamie I build circa 1970 that was somewhat damaged and began the process of rebuilding to this configuration- figured i could cannibalize a 1/700 Ticonderoga CG for the Aegis/ Vls, harppon,etc.- suspended due to me deciding to work on a 1/700 HMS Audacious equipped w/ BPMDS,CIWS, F-4s, Gannet AEW and Kestrels ( 90 % complete) i'll try to pull up the drawings for the Aegis BB and post here.

Roughneck,

Did you mean this one?

This one?

It seems to have a lot of drawings by some of the 'Shipbucket' crowd

Neat stuff...wish they would change the backround though, for us old farts who have to squint.

An FFG probably couldn't support the weight of a 5" mount, and certainly its hull isn't strengthened to withstand the recoil. Something in the 57mm range would probably be the limit, replacing the single-arm launcher.

The Aussies are adding an 8 cell VLS for VL Sea Sparrow forward of the launch arm.

In want of hobby space!  The kitchen table is never stable.  Still managing to get some building done.

If you do a complete redesign, it ought to be possible. But you'd certainly have to completely rework the scantlings of everything forwards of the bow, and possibly have to reshape it depending on the differing dimensions of the Mk 13 launcher and th 5" Mk 45.

By that point, you're effectively designing a new ship, so you might as well make it a lot better, rather than just a little bit, and in some roles. Might I suggest an OHP/Brooke hybrid, seeing as the Brooke class managed a 5" gun, ASROC, Tartar and a helicopter on 500 tons and 30 feet less hull? If you want an excuse to just swap out the Mk 13 for a Mk 45, politicians are useful - it looks like an easy swap to the non-engineer.
