At the end of WWII, the Soviets troops seized the Ju-287. A team led by Baade and Vocke was send to USSR were they kept on their work.

Ju-287 follow-ons were the EF-131 and 132.

the EF-131 had forward swept wings, and the 132 was a swept wing bomber with 6 engines in the wing roots.

These projects were developed by german ingeniers kept prisoniers in USSR from 1946 to 1953. In 1948, Alekseyev (which later specialised in ekranoplans) was named at the head of the team.
Under its leadership were build the -140 bomber serie of prototypes which lost to the Il-28.

The latter had wingtip fuel tanks...

But these planes were not very successfull, plagued by unreliable engines.

In 1950, things take a twist. Fed up with the bad results of Alekseyev, Soviet governement transfered the team to Myasischev design bureau. Before that, another project had been impulsed, the -150 bomber. This one had no FSW, but it had a T-tail and monotrace undercarriage. This was needed to fill the gap between the Il-28 and Tu-16!!!

(I 've just found this on prototypes.com, I promise I've never heard off all these projects  when I build my M-100...  one week ago :o

So Myasischev and German's teams merged in late 1950.
Myasischev decided to kept on the "intermediate bomber", improving it. In the end the plane become so heavier and bigger that' it was more a tu-16 competitor...  ;)

the -150 bomber was abandoned in late 1950 for a more powerfull design. Myasischev' s team made a synthesis of EF-131 / 132 / 140/ 150 designs to save time. A Tu-4 was also loaned from the VVS for a deep study of its fuselage.

forward part of the fuselage was a mix of Ju-287 and B-29, Ie a plexigas bubble with a raised canopy for the pilot.
Fuselage had monotrace undercarriage very similar to the 150, combined with
Tu-4 / B-29 section.
wings were a scaled-up variant of the 140R project. Wingtip fuel tanks now housed the outriggers.
At the beginning, Myasischev wanted the Mikouline AM-3 to be on nacelles (similar to the -140). alas, their cross section were too big... after some hesistations, the big engines were re located on the wing roots, in a way similar to the EF-132. Oval intakes were found to be more aerodynamics than round intakes, and this lesson was retained when building the M-4  ^_^

The T-tail of the -150 project was also kept on the -100 bomber

Prototype flew on April 1st 1953. The Tu-16 prototype was already flying for one year and had superior performances... but Stalin died 5 days later, Myasischev lobbied Kruschev hard, and a small batch of  M-100s was build for the Soviet Navy (in the same way as the Tu-14 Bosun against the Il-28 Beagle  four years earlier  ;)  )

King Arthur: Can we come up and have a look?
French Soldier: Of course not. You're English types.
King Arthur: What are you then?
French Soldier: I'm French. Why do you think I have this outrageous accent, you silly king?

Well regardless I would rather take my chance out there on the ocean, that to stay here and die on this poo-hole island spending the rest of my life talking to a gosh darn VOLLEYBALL.
