A long time ago I began a strike fighter in the class of Thunderchief but Soviet. Inspired by MiG-27Sh but poorer. A year ago I got bored with it. But I am thinking on resurecting it as a Cuban fighter deployed to help Argentina. Of course Cuban industry could no design/make a jet fighter without help, I was thinking in Soviet or Chinese.

Demand for help: I need an antiship missile of Chinese or Soviet origin to copy or whiff it that could be carried by a, let say, F-105.

Is this electable for this GB?

Cuba DID offer assistance to Argentina during the war IIRC, so I dont see how this wont fit in.

One caveat though;  I'm thinking the rules will require that the basic history of the war be unchanged.  For example alternate scenarios should revolve around a short war between Argentina/Britain that did not expand significantly.  Allied assistance for both sides was offered and is fair game, but no expansion of the Falklands War into WWIII-type scenarios.  Reasons why it DIDNT expand would be good stuff for backstories though.

Like the sound of your Soviet Anti-ship Thudski!
So I got that going for me...which is nice....

You remember well. In those days I was thinking on a diorama depicting a Malvinas' airstrip full of MiG-17s in mud.

So: I am on.

What type of aircraft did Chile operate at the time, specifically recce aircraft?

Most of my back story for the Argentinians revolves around Argentina buying a bunch of new weaponry after nearly dukeing it out with Chile over those disputed islands south of Tierra del Fuego in 1978. Chile provides covert support to the UK by deploying forces south to Tierra del Fuego and conducting recce flights over Argentine territory to draw Argentinian attention away from the Falklands.

Hawker Hunter, Cessna A-37, MIrage V, Northrop F-5E - all would have been in service with the Fuerza Aerea de Chile at the time of the Flaklands conflict, and all would have been able to perform some kind of recce mission (with varying effectiveness and chance of coming back in one piece).

Hope that helps, SOD.

Wonder how a RF-5E would look in Chilean markings?  It's just a bit too early for a RF-20.  of course, recce versions of the Hunter or Mirage V are equally possible for the scenario, the Mirage V might increase the confusion factor for the Argentinians since the FAA operated Mirages, too.

now now, it's those chilean recce tsr-2's that would cause all of the trouble you know.

OK guys get those ideas dusted off and the #11 blades as the ready.  Less than a week to start on this build.  I'll be getting the rules ready by (or at least over) the weekend.
So I got that going for me...which is nice....

1. Will my Tucara count if I do Argentine markings but a non-authentic camo scheme of my own design?

2. Do I get a year beyond the "normal" deadline?

1.  Heck yes!  (what kind of whif build would I be running if I demanded real aircraft and real camo?? :P   )

2.  Once again, Heck yes!  However, with the caveat that you will not be eligible for a valuable award, and you will be branded a "slow modeler".

:D

Or recce Mirage F1CR (but this would be a bit too early... better to use RP-33 recce pod)

French Soldier: Of course not. You're English types.
King Arthur: What are you then?
French Soldier: I'm French. Why do you think I have this outrageous accent, you silly king?

Well regardless I would rather take my chance out there on the ocean, that to stay here and die on this poo-hole island spending the rest of my life talking to a gosh darn VOLLEYBALL.

Captain Canada

I see on another forum/ website talking about the Falklands/ Malvinas war has been banned. What next, no building models of the machines involved ? Maybe it never happened......

Yet another reason to be mindful of the "No Politics" rule and the sensibilities of other members of the forum. Fortunately, we're a small, tightly-knit group of modellers here and I'm sure there will be no issues.

Ack! I've been reminded of one more GB deadline I might miss!

Yes, another reason not to let emotions nor anything else biased get in the of reporting objectively, and I dont like the results of what happened over yonder.

Back on track, 2 weeks to go then I can recommence work on my birds!
