Is it just me, or does it look like they simply reversed the pod and then turned the pilot's seat around? Dang, that looks do-able.

Does anyone know the smallest timed fuse round for anti-aircraft guns available during WW2? It might have been interesting to see a P-38 with a small ranging radar, and a 40mm cannon - firing a burst of AAA-type rounds into German aerial formations.

As for anti-shipping, I had a feeling that they found the best solution was to rely on rockets (after trying 75mm guns on the B-25). A Merlin-equipped P-38 would have been able to carry a good number of rockets, the problem is really just the sheer lack of Merlins available, so the key is to get production of Merlins increased early on. In fact, on the basis of the P-38s success, the RAF might have been more interested in the Mosquito early on, perhaps fielding a Lightning/Mosquito fighter/bomber pairing!
