Seems an Australian and New Zealand common Currency is being mooted.

Let's see, a few years back the New Zealand military lost any true defensive capabilities...

Now talk of a common currency between New Zealand and Australia....

I wouldn't say that.  Arguably, the New Zealand Gov't's decision to do away with it's fast jet capability was a sound one.

As for a common currency,this sort of proposal (along with a joint military) comes up just about every year around this time (ANZAC day).  

Another interesting proposal similar to this is that Australia, New Zealand, PNG  and all the South Pacific Islands (e.g. Figi, Solomons etc) for a union with a single common currency (probably the Australian $).  I won't go into any more depth at this stage except to say that it has a lot of benefits for all concerned and is the basis of a backstory (and several models) I'm working on...

I think the US, Canada, and Mexico should have a common currency, but given that you now have to show a passport to return from our neighbors I give it a snow balls chance in hell.
