I propose they re-build lots of stuff at Davis Monthan, then we can have more F-4s and F-14s, F-16s, etc.
ESPECIALLY with lots of bumps, mods, etc.

Bring back the Phabulous Phantom, lots of B-52 (with 4 engines of course) and KC-135! And let northwest keep flying the DC-9! (the eternal plane :P )

QuoteI wonder what the chances would be?

Lockheed Martin is planning on giving pilots a book (flying for idiots), and sending them up on a plane, and when plane crashes (pilot ejects) USAF will have to buy more Lockheed Martin products!    (of course, in case pilots learns to fly it, some gripen software will be fitted, to chuck out the pilot at some point  )

QuoteAny two-seater would be at least a F-35D (*chuckle* this would follow the 'numbering convention' we joke about at work: A for Asphalt (CTOL), B for Beach (Stovl), & C for Carrier (CV) - to this we'd add D for Dual).
Would that be a 2-seat version of the A or the C?  I guess a dual version of the B might  be a bit noisy in the rear seat :)
Most likely based on the C with the larger wing in order to keep the wing loading as reasonable as possible.

In the meantime, there's quite an effective training and simulator program being developed and there are a few other aspects I'm not sure I can comment on.

My thoughts: more UCAVs. The "fighter mafia" will raise hell about it, but I suspect it will become a low-cost necessity for exceptionally high-risk missions (SEAD, deep penetration strike, etc).

The later block F-16s will be flown until the wings fall off, 35+ years.

I know the Pentagon came out and said the next bomber will be manned and subsonic but I'll bet within ten years the Air Force starts looking at suborbital bombers (manned or unmanned) that can take off from Barksdale and strike anywhere on Earth in 2-3 hours.
How did the country lose its way...when did we stop rooting for the man with a flame-thrower or an acid-spraying gun of some kind?

I place no faith in UCAVs at this time ( I should know, thats what my paper is on ;) ).

Shas,

Any chance of getting a copy of your paper to read?

You're number 3 on the list mate, although you'll probably find it not up to my usual specs (got sick a week ago which threw off my whole time schedule)

Hmmmm...

Since the Navy is going All-F/A-18 (yes that's facetious but it sure seems to be that way), why not do some new-build USAF F/A-18C's?   Remove the folding wing mechanism,  lighten the MLG,  add two or three hard points for more fuel, and voila!  :P
