After a couple weeks of almost no modeling activity I managed to get something done this weekend...including getting the decals on this model and prepping the vac-form canopy parts for painting and istallation.

Next weekend I will add the landing gear and wheels and other small details.

looks like they parked it in a bad neighborhood

Nice work so far Matrix.

Perhaps it was looted by U.S. troops after its belly landing?

Thanks for the comment Jeff!

Looking good so far Matrix1, I built the glass nose 262 a million years ago when they first released it.  Turned out not half bad, but I'm glad it's in storage 'cause yours just looks too good.

Thanks Mav!

I like the kit except for one thing...it has not one but THREE vac-form canopy parts to add to it.

Yowsa Matrixone you had a most successful weekend at the workbench! This one's looking every bit the business! I love the idea of a "clear-nosed" 262 and I can't wait to see your next update!

Very true Matrix,

I remember it being amongst my first Vac canopy builds.  Lotsa cursing and swearing about that to say the very least, but at least they gave you two sets I guess.  I personally hope MPM think about a re-release with an injected canopy this time.

neato! Knew it was up your alley!

Thanks very much Brian and Greg!

I like the KG 51 scheme I chose for this model, if the Me 262 bomber would have been put into production KG 51 would likely have used it.

Mav,
I agree, this model could really use an injection molded canopy...it would really make this a much easier to build model. I have a kit from Special Hobby of the Fw 187 and it clearly states on the front of the box ''Canopy is injected'' so maybe they are listening to us.

Thanks Wooksta!

I thought about slicing off the bomber nose section and adding it to a Revell Me 262 but that would take some of the fun out of building these MPM/Special Hobby kits, yes they can be difficult to build sometimes and might not be all that accurate but when I finish one it feels good and I have something a bit unusual to add to my collection.
Now if I just get the courage to build one of my Special Hobby Ju 388s!

that model displays your usual deft and sure touch with the airbrush Matrix

Thanks Allan!

Airbrushing these ''scribble'' camouflage patterns is actually quite fun to do, the key to it is getting the right paint/thinner ratio. I have no set rules on how much I thin my paints, if it looks right it usually is right. Hours of practice with my airbrush has paid off well.

Wooksta,

Thanks for letting me know why the wing to fuselage join on these MPM Me 262 kits are such a pain to assemble, I had not paid any attention to how much the wings resemble those from the old Heller kit.

Its the resin bits on the Ju 388 kit that I dread, I need to get a decent razor saw to cut the resin parts from the pouring block.

Your idea to make a Ju 388L-O is fantastic, looking forward to seeing the finished model.

Thank you for the comments Rafa!

I might get get this one finished by Sunday...but I just had a boo-boo with one of the landing gear legs and broke it so maybe by next weekend for sure it will be done. The vac-form clear parts are trimmed, painted, and ready to be added to the model. I have yet to find bombs for this model so it might have to do without at least for now.

Wooksta,
Instead of ''real'' markings for your Ju 388L-O whiff it instead!
Both of my Ju 388s will get the whiff treatment, I have been collecting various decal sheets of Luftwaffe bombers just for that purpose. :)
