Chaps,

The 1/48th V-tail is progressing nicely.
But I now come to a point where a decision needs to be made:

1. Should the P-40V be land-based
or
2. carrier-based?

If land-based:

Standard USAAF colours/decals....I have a few.
RAF colours/decals...I have a few, mainly desert 112 Sqn.
French desert?
French European?
Something "off the wall" like Latvian, Lithuanian, Estonian...I have decals?
Finnish or Soviet?
Chinese?
RAF SEAC??

If carrier-based, I'll need to modify the wings, not attached yet but a good fit.
Also add other naval gear like an arrestor hook, spools, etc..
If naval:

RN North Atlantic? Convoy Escort?
RN Tropical?
USN or USMC...perhaps as a fighter-bomber?
Brazilian Navy?...or Cuban Navy?...or Mexican Navy?
French Tropical Navy in the Carribean, all-white with pretty roundels?

Or, I could go completely barmy and create a COIN Fighter-bomber in African or South American colours?

Advice and suggestions please.

First up.....Land-based or naval?

I keep petitioning for someone to do an African COIN aircraft in Senegalese markings.  That blotchy camo scheme is quite nice too, might look even better with a forth colour???  If you haven't got it, I'm sure someone could spare the decals from the Zotz sheet.

Otherwise I'd go for the French desert aircraft, in Vichy markings.  Although Zac showed that RN colours look very nice on it......
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

I've a number of other African decals from various sources.

A Sky and Grey P-40N is appearing. It's made, just needs painting and decals...in 1/72nd though.
Done from the HobbyBoss P-40N kit. B)

Hmmmmm......

Thoughts:   One could maximise impact of the modification by using some simple paint scheme.     Land versions would have less strain on the tail.
Markings?  Beechcraft?

Great idea, btw.   Which kit are you using?

An "old" Arii 1/48th P-40E (also released by Otaki and Airfix)....funnily, the moulds must be ancient by now, but it has exquisite recessed rivet detail....just like the Americans (and Dragon and Trumpter) are going wild about.
I bought my kit full price around 30 years ago for £3.99.

Thinking land-based....saves buggering up the nice rivet detail (I can do a naval P-40E from something else).
