Frankly, I love Monogram kits and always have so it was with no small enthusiasm when I signed up for the ARC GB.

These are what I actually wanted to do but they are outside necessary GB guidelines but appropriate for here.   Anyone is free to use the ideas too.

1/48 Me-262 with a V-tail similar to the new release Dragon He-162.

1/48 Stuka on Seiran floats in civvie service post-war delivering in the Canadian bush or Alaskan interior.

1/48 Mustang USMC Korea with folding wings, overall GSB, square HS props.

1/48 P-40B w/ cut down spine....in the I love P-40's GB.

1/48 B-17G with turtle deck removed and reprofiled cockpit, turrets removed, role undetermined.

1/72 Hawk P-6E in some sort of racer markings or those of Ben Curtiss out of Porco Rosso as an alternate aircraft for "Back Home".

1/48 F/A-18 Light.   Non-folding wings, reduced LERX, revised spine, USAF.  Under way as well.

1/48 B-29E  Extended fuselage, Vietnam green/green/tan over black.  No room for that one in the house.

Anyways, that's just thinking aloud again and someday a few may come to light.

Daryl,

Some cool ideas there.

What were the guidelines?

Greg:

No rescribing.... all these get the needle/pin-vise and some the re-riveter. (Thanks, Tony Bell!!!!)
No photoetch....there may be a little...ie the P-40B instrument panel and the like.
No resin...again there may be  a prop here, and exhaust stack set there, a seat, or such.

They've sure got a great thing going over there and wanted to fall in line with that too.

No *extensive* scratchbuilding is there too, and no aftermarket weaps.

I had to get clarification on the rules before I went with my F-20 (slated to get a nosejob in form of a old F-5E radome) thats going to be a RoCAF companion to the J-14 listed over on the Phoenix GB board.

That was called the Northrop YF-17 Cobra!

*almost* the same thing Greg, one difference being the larger LERXs & the fuller airbrak IIRC.

I wonder what a single engined F/A-18 would look like (apart from a single engined F/A-18 that is - there got in first :P ).  Say Mcdonnell Douglas also offered a version with a single P&W F100, but essentially no other changes.

Jennings,

Sometimes I'm a complete ignoramus.   The YF-17 is an aircraft of which I know essentially nothing so it was a strange experience to see some of my "imaginary" ideas already flying.    Monogram's A-18 Hornet has already received a rescribe and a spinectomy along with wing-fold removal and a sketched on LERX revision.  But, seeing the Cobra, it makes one wonder if some F-105 parts should be grafted onto the nose.   :P

Spine to be recontoured to a ''fatback'' with styrene and Magic Sculpt:

Northrop did propose a single F100-powered version of the basic design as part of the YF-17 bidding, the USAF chose to go with the two-J101 proposal.  I'd assume that a single-engined F/A-18 would resemble that, though I can only remember seeing top views of this variant in F-18 evolution charts.

Something roughly along these lines?  This is the BAe Brough P.163, one of several Light Combat Aircraft designs which eventually culminated in the Grippen.

Won't hi-jack your thread any more Daryl!
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

QuoteA F-17/F-20 hybrid of sorts?
Only slightly since the single-engined design used a F100 or equivalent.  'Tis on my list of things to work up drawings on.
