First I would like to appologize for not posting as often as I used to. My time is clearly "eaten up" by work on an upcoming Airfix HO/OO figure book.

But then here are two Hortens I recently did for my site (I still need to update it monthly so I still build kits !)

Ho 229 V6 Revell conversion (in French)
I think this one is the V6. Data indicated ETC 505 carriers but no bomb load so I refrained from adding any.

Ho 229 V7 conversion MP+Revell (in French)

and this one should be the V7 with a nose radome added by PM and not present on the reference material.

One thing that I have never understood or liked on this Ho fighter design was the over-large and ungainly nose-gear.
Not does it just look oversized and overly heavy, but its bulk would have taken up much valuable internal space on retraction, which could have been used for more jet fuel for the thirsty engines of the day!
What about a long-strutted nose gear arrangement (to give the angle of attack for both take off and landing), but with to smaller twin wheel arrangement i.e. McDonnell F-4 Phantom II style?

Hi Mad
If I recollect correctly the nose wheel on the prototype was salvaged from a Liberator.

EDIT   sorry been told that was the Ju287 :dum:

Two reasons for the large size nose wheel, C of G and for take-off. Because of the landing gear arrangement on the Ho 229 normal rotation for take-off was not possible like other tricycle geared aircraft so the Horten brothers designed their jet fighter to sit slightly nose high so once the lift off speed was reached it would fly itself off the ground...no rotation needed.

Thank you for the nice comments. The bird figure on the nose was based on a snow eagle (Harfang ...I like the name). It just struck me that the shape of the nose of the Ho was reminiscent of a beak so I tried to design a "bird's head" to fit on it . Naturally it was  hand painted ....

Nice models! I have to build my own Ho-229 kit.
King Arthur: Can we come up and have a look?
French Soldier: Of course not. You're English types.
King Arthur: What are you then?
French Soldier: I'm French. Why do you think I have this outrageous accent, you silly king?

Well regardless I would rather take my chance out there on the ocean, that to stay here and die on this poo-hole island spending the rest of my life talking to a gosh darn VOLLEYBALL.

Beautiful, absolutely beautiful!  Tres magnifique!!!

Now, could you please teach us how you managed the impressive photo complete with background and foreground, etc.?

Please????

Both builds came out very nice JC.

I'm partial to the winter white with dark spotted camo myself :)

Another reason for the large landing gear was the need to take off and land from "Improvised" runways as the USAAF was Plastering the Well prepared and thus OBVIOUS ones
