I didn't want to hi-jack Hog's thread so here is something I've been working on.  I picked up a book from the Rolls Royce Heritage Trust called the Rolls Royce Crecy and it has a couple of schematics on how the engine would probably have been orientated.  The engine was originally a V-12 and was a two stroke.  It was projected to put out over 5000 hp when developed.

The version I'm interested in was proposed by Stewart Trevillion (one of the best piston engine theoryists of the time) which started off as an X-16 cylinder with power of about 2500 hp but the numbers were crunched so it became am X-24 cylinder putting out about 8000 hp,  The schematics have these engines in nacelles on a multi engined transport but I wondered how it could be installed into a fighter.

A clue was the comment that the engine looked like a jet turbine, it had an intake at the front for the supercharger, then the engine block, then the exhaust turbine.

I decided to look for an airframe of the time which could handle 8000 hp (1 lbs of thrust is about 1 hp) and the F-86D fit the bill. The engine would be mounted where the jet engine would be in the F-86, at the back (actually just behind the wing trailing edge) and connect to the prop by drive shaft.  One of those strange coincidences occurred when I discovered that the rear of the rear spinner of a Wyvern prop wasn't much bigger than the diameter of the forward fuselage of the F-86D, all I had to do was file down the front of the fuselage by about a millimeter and the spinner matched the fuselage.  The air intake I left as is and would serve the radiators and carb.  The radiators in the schematic shows them to be annular and positioned around the supercharger which works just beautifully in my application.  Another coincidence was how the undercarriage came about, I had bought some replacement FJ-4 Fury u/c and I realised that this was just what I needed.

Anyway, here's a few pics at where I'm at with this:

The exhaust would exit through the center pipe and the hot air from the radiator would exit outside of the exhaust pipe and between the fuselage

Great idea - look forward to the finished model.

Vaya, Kitnut!!!

That's a wonderful rendition of the concept. Excellent idea.

I'd love to see the finished product. It is already an elegant mount.

I like it! The Crecy was an interesting idea (even if impractical); sticking it into an early jet fighter is sheer genius.
