Today i visited the cold war museum, on the southern funnen. I found this museum on the internet this morning, and me and my dad went there today. Its a very nice museum, located on the bunker facilities of a radar station on the southern funnen. This radar station actually picked up the first soviet ships, headed to cuba with nuclear missiles that started the cuba crisis    Theres also 5 150 mm cannons on the fortification, that where originally fitted to the german battlecruiser Gneisenau! The station was active from 1952 to 1992.

The Minesweeper HMDS Askø. Built 1941 in Holbæk, Denmark, for the german navy. Since served with the danish navy. Its made from wood. Shown alongside it is also alot of contraptions that where used to escape eastern germany during the cold war.

Next is the HDMS Springeren. The second last submarine of our navy. (now we have no more) The sister submarine was sent to Iraq in 2003 in support of the coalition   This one was built in germany very long time ago (1958), for the norwegian navy. Then sold to the danish navy (1991). One of the submarines of this type, went down while under tow, from norway, after we bought them

And finally some pictures of the 150 mm cannons from the Gneisenau. They helped sink HMS Glorious once...

Appart from that, there was a large AA battery with 2 40mm AA guns (Bofors i think), and a larger double barreled 40mm AA gun. There was installations for a further 4 guns, that had been removed. The radar is still active today, however is unmanned.

If you love, love without reservation; If you fight, fight without fear - THAT is the way of the warrior

If you go into battle knowing you will die, then you will live. If you go into battle hoping to live, then you will die

Wow...what an interesting museum, Nils ! Aeroplanes, guns, and ships and subs....wicked ! Sounds like you and Dad had a great day.

I agree with Nevster, that Polish Mig is classic. The Draken looks pretty sweet as well. Planes always look good in shelters like that, if you ask me. Ready to roll out and take the fight to the air !

Thanks for sharing.
