sitting bored in work and decided to throw together the Panda 1/48 F.35 kit...

ill do a few lil mods to make it superficially like a proper 'Lightning II' but not intending to go overboard and change the intakes, wing, tails, canopy, etc. ...a quick build...

one thing i an tinkering with is a somewhat different armament unit for the model..lol (its amazing what a couple of 'pound shop' laser pointers can do..lol)

any thoughts as to a colour scheme... im thinking circa 2017

Blue!
Or reflective metal. (We're talking a laser fighter, no?)
And a golden canopy.

Digi-camo?  That seems to be the growing trend.  I've thought of doing it using fine tulle/netting with a square weave.  Buy the sizes you need, mask off the pattern you want on the tulle, stick it down with either masking tape or a light coat of prit-stick or similar & paint over your base coat.  You'll have lots of little squares all over, you can repeat it with different colours over the top.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Rafael

Oh, I forgot digi camo, Mossie.
That would be nice too for the time frame.

Adaptive camoflage ;)  Top would be pixelated runway, bottom be blue/gray with pretty clouds

When I first read this, I thought you meant an airframe with 2 engines stacked on top of each other...

TsrJoe

Clearly deployable lasing heads as you can see the closeout panels above or below them as applicable.  As long as there's no real aerodynamic problems, I don't see, at first glance, any real constraints.  I've heard stories (but never been able to verify same) that back in the 1980s, Northrop looked at a fighter with a lower-energy laser for use against aircraft ingressing using sophisticated EO systems as a means of relatively benign takedown by taking out the EO systems by overload.

you have no idea how near to the truth that list realy is LOL

Bit like the old joke about the six day war...why was it only six days?  cause the IDF got a discount if it got the tanks back to Hertz before the end of the week.
