Although not whiffs, I have always liked these colours - does anyone know of any other pictures showing more detail, and what were the details of the tug modifications?

looking at the shot of the dakota, glenn it would look like it is one of the C-47's
with the missing bit at the base of the tail which was where iirc the tow line for
gliders was attached. i suspect this is where the tow target was towed from.

also the serial 660. could this be KG660? i ask as the BoBMF dak' was once RCAF
661 [KG661] and when about 27 years ago was found to be a duplicate of a 1943
C-47, was reserialled ZA947.

Glen, in Patric Martin's book, Royal Canadian Air Force - Aircraft Finish & Markings 1947-1968, on page 266, there's a very detailed drawing of these markings for the Ventura along with a few other photos in B&W. There's another photo of a Ventura on page 29 also in B&W. There's no diagram or photo of a Dakota though.

Thanks for the info, Trevor & Robert. Will have to search out a copy of Patric Martin's book.
Can't procrastinate another 50 years - would be surprised to be painting those stripes aged 111!
